2400 vs. 2200 w/ ImagePrint 5.6

2400 vs. 2200 w/ ImagePrint 5.6

2005-11-08 by Robert DeCandido, PhD

Hello,

If you had a choice bwtween purchasing a used 2200 w/ ImagePrint 5.6 (with a free upgrade to 6.0) for $450, or purchasing a new 2400, which would you choose?

(The ImagePrint version is the Lite, and not full version. Lite retails for $495.)

The Epson 2200 was purchased in 2003 and has received "moderate" use.

Thanks for advice,

rdc/nyc

I'd go with the 2400. I think the K3 approach is the way most B&W is headed
at the higher end of the scale.

I can't see any reason to use ImagePrint for B&W or Color. For color
work, you can get better gamut and Dmax with the Epson driver and a
custom profile, and for B&W, QTR, IJC/OPM or other solutions will
give better output. IP doesn't allow any control over ink limits and
lineatization. It is also expensive for what you get, and a license
only covers usage with a single printer model. There are better,
less expensive options out there.

I'd definitely go with the 2400 if it was a choice between the two.

I would choose the 2200 with Imageprint. Imageprint is
absolutely wonderful with it's only downside being the
price. I have both and get very similar results. The
difference is the amount of time not spent making
special profiles for the 2400 as the Imageprints
profiles work so well.

However, you need to know that Colorbyte is now
producting Imageprint for the 2400. Of course that
means a total investment of $800+ for the printer and
another $450 for the software. But I believe it will
be an unbeatable combination. I am purchasing a copy
for my 2400 and will post opinions as to its efficacy.

If you have the choice, that would mean the cost of the 2400 was already
justified; get the 2400 and enjoy BW printing without hassles.

So....I would say either get the 2400 or the Piezotone K7 for the 2200.
