Problems with MIS EZN in C86

Problems with MIS EZN in C86

2005-11-25 by lmpipes

This is my first post to the group, so thank you in advance for your help.

Recently I purchased the MIS EZN ink for use in a C86 printer. I popped the cartridges in
and tried printing, not realizing that there was a foil sticker that needed to be removed
over the ventilation hole (no instructions were sent with the cartridges!). After I got those
suckers off (which was quite an effort), my first print yielded terrible banding.

The MIS tech support has suggested all these remedies, which I've tried to no avail:

1) Making sure ventilation holes are uncovered (yep! Poked a paper clip wire into them to
make sure).
2) Leaving cartridges sit outside the printer for a day to eliminate any air bubbles.
2) Running a cleaning cycle (Did two for good measure, plus ran several nozzle checks.
Perhaps a small improvement, but still there is banding).

Before using the MIS cartridges, I used the Epson color cartridges and had no problem with
printing.

I have noticed than the cyan prints fine, the black with very small banding, the yellow and
magenta with the worst banding.

Any suggestion? Thank you,

LPipes

Since you're just wasting ink with all the cleanings, try this:

Load a piece of plain paper and print an 8x10" photo.

Chances are, half way through that print, the air bubbles will
subside and the printer will be ready to print.

I do this often after re-filling one of the carts in my c86. I run a
nozzle check, and if it needs a "cleaning", I'll just print an 8x10
instead. It works almost everytime.

Let us know if this works for you.

Scott

If a lot of air has gotten above the inlet, priming the cart is the best way
to remove it. Of course, this takes a syringe and modified MIS bottom fill
adapter, and it wastes ink. My version of a modified bottom fill adapter is
shows at http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/Mod_Bot_Fill.jpg, MIS has another
approach. See the bottom of my Readme on the C86, at

how to most cheaply use the C86 EZ system.

Paul,

So, from your links, it appears that all I need to prime the existing carts is the bottom fill
adapter? I was hoping to test out these inks without too much investment.

And, Scott, I tried out your suggestion of printing an 8x10 in hopes the air bubbles would
work their way out on their own, but it didn't work.

Thanks,
LPipes

And a syringe. See the instructions for filling one of these carts at

Ahhh...the bottom fill adapter attaches to a syringe. Now I get it. My husband is a chemist
and has these supplies at his lab, so I'll get to try this tomorrow. I'll let you know how it
turns out.
