MIS continuousFlowB&W the good bad and the ugly?

MIS continuousFlowB&W the good bad and the ugly?

2002-01-02 by Cameraguy5

I have an Epson 1200 and thinking about getting the MIS
continuous flow system with their monochrome inks. I'm
currently using Luminos monochrome inks in the cartridges, but
I end up using half the ink just trying to keep the heads
unclogged....way too expensive, time comsuming, not to mention
a big pain in the ass.
How good is the MIS system and what problems with it working
properly, head clogging etc? Any first hand experience with this
would be greatly appreciated before I spend even more money,
make the switch, only to have the same problem or worse.
Thanks for your help!

Cameraguy5,

I have had the same MIS (color) CFS in my 1200 for a couple of years
without a clog. A second 1200 has a VM HEX CFS for a couple of
months without a problem. I love 'em!

CAMERAGUY5,

i have been using the continuous flow system on my 1200 with great
results. there are some issues however. first, if you follow the
instructions to the letter you should be ok with initial filling of
cartriges. second, once it is up and running you need to run a
cleaning cycle once a day to keep the sponges from drying out. i let
mine sit to long once and it went dry. i had to replace the unit,
which by the way was replaced by mis for free. this system has saved
incredible time and hastle, not to mention money. i say go for it.

I am in the process of setting up the MIS CFS for VM inks. The
vacuum pump is a super easy and clean way to pre-fill your carts so
buy one of those. Also, after comparing the MIS CFS with the
NoMoreCarts version I feel that the MIS version produces lower
stresses at the print heads so is actually preferable even though the
NoMoreCarts version seems better put together. The MIS lifetime
warranty is also nice.

PS My "newer" 1160 is actually in a 1270 housing so I have to wait to
get a new hose suport before I can actually finish installing it
(...if anyone gets a new 1160 they should make sure they are
installing the correct hardware when setting up a CFS).
