The ColorVision spectrocolorimeter I am beta testing reads out in LAB values. I would like to utilize this to evaluate the degree of blackness of prints. "L" valueThe scale is 0 to 100, 0 being black, and 100 being white. Can anyone come up with a conversion to the density values I see bandied about in this list? Thanks very much......................... Jack Winberg [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

If it is a ColorSavvy CM2C device, they have software that should read out directly. The software was free on their web site.

Jack, You can use the campanding calculator on Bruce Lindbloom's site. http://www.brucelindbloom.com/ If you spectro works with QuickRead, that will read out both in Lab and density values. It used to be a free download at www.icctools.com, but the link doesn't seem to be working anymore. I'm not sure if it is still available or not. I'm sure there are other utilities that provide both Lab and density values, but at least the Companding Calculator will work, even though it isn't as convenient as QuickRead. Greg: This is a brand new instrument, to be released in January by ColorVision as part of their Printfix Pro package, designated model 1005, made by Datacolor. Hi Lou: THANKS for this suggestion, I'll give that a shot, certainly worth a try! Support jerked me around until the 30 day return had past, and I got to keep the junk! And that they could have at least offered to let me have the new system to compensate. And yes I do still hold a grudge against them. They do have my email listed, and I sent several messages to them regarding this. In recent weeks I have received their spam about a few products, so I know they still have my email. By the shape and description, either they bought this colorimeter from ColorSavvy, or reverse engineered it from their CM2C. The CM2C was the best part of the old system but needed some improvement.

Or a simple spreadsheet to do the calc. The formula is not difficult. Let me know if you need it.

Thanks, Walt

Walt I sent a version to your E'mail. It is long and I'm not sure it went through. Let me know if not and I will send a shorter version I have. The table is very similar to results obtained using the companding calculator. Walt
