chips on ez warm ultratone for R200

chips on ez warm ultratone for R200

Hello all,

Hoping someone can help with this since MIS tech support is busy.

When I received my warm tone inks last week and installed them I had a standing red light.
called them and was informed that the chip was bad on the yellow cart. They sent me a
new one right away. Installed the new chip and it worked. Great so far. Printed a test shot
using the setup on Paul Roark workflow and the print came out dead neutral. Great for
some but I like the carbon look. Pulled the cartridge out to confirm that I received the right
carts and not the neutral inks and sure enough it was the right inks. Placed the cart back
in and have the standing red light again.

Is this a constant problem with these carts? Will I have to order chips all the time? This is
really inconvenient. And then why are the prints dead neutral?

When my 1280 died I went with the R200 but MIS didn't have the inks at the time, so I
bought Mediastreet's quad blacks and it worked great especially since it used QTR which I
bought for the 11280. Unfortunately I had a question which I posted on this forum and no
one replied so I figured that most of you folks are on MIS inks or the Piezo inks. So I have
been making do and experimenting the best I can and life was good. When I saw MIS came
out with the inks for my printer I thought I can save some money and have better support
on this forum.

Did I make the wrong call here? Will I have to go back to Mediastreet? After my fiasco with
cfs on the 1280 all I want is no fuss carts. Replacing chips is an inconvenience. I rather
spend that time working in CS2.

So is this a constant problem with these carts and why are the prints dead neutral?

Hoping someone can help me and not make me regret going back to MIS.

Also Roy, will you ever make QTR available to the R200 with MIS inks?

Thank you

It appears MIS has some incorrectly marked R2 Warm carts out there. The R2
warm should be pure carbon.

Sometimes it's the contact between the chip and printer. Last night I had
to put a few 1/8" square pieces of tape below the chip to raise it up a bit.
That cured the problem.

> Is this a constant problem with these carts?

A certain percentage of the carts appear to be a few paper thicknesses too
short, and a certain percentage of chips are bad. So, you should have some
extra chips and save those off old carts for spares.

MIS told me they just bought a chip tester, but I'm not sure what percentage
of the incoming chips they are testing. These problems are a nuisance for
them and us. Hopefully they'll find some workable and affordable solutions.

Paul, et al: I wonder if the much less warm results I got with my
R220 UT R2W compared with my C86 with the Warm carts was because one
or more the R2 Warm carts were mismarked? I had asked that question
about 2 weeks ago... Should I check back with MIS?

As an update, finally got thru to MIS and they are having send back the inks for testing.
Seems like the lot numbers are correct for warm tone. They don't have an answer for the
chip going bad again. Great service, always has been, just hope I don't have to deal with
this all the time. Just means I can't print anything for a few days and can't get any printing
done. That 2400 seems better and better. May not have to pay rent one month to get it
and avoid all these inconveniences. :) Not going to try that tape thing since they are
expecting the carts back as they are but if it happens again I will try it.

Thanks
