Mark, Great series! I spent almost two hours viewing the images. Recently I had the pleasure to see the images of Cuba made by Tom Lopez and Kerry Coppin at the University of Miami. It is always very satisfying to see how people can shoot the same subject and see it in totally different ways. Tom from the vantage of an exile brought to the US as a child and now a Professor, Kerry who is working on a project looking at the Black Peoples of the country from the eyes of a successful African American Professor. Thanks for sharing a creative, moving, and indepth look into your subject. -Mike Michael J. Kravit Architect/Photgrapher [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

If anybody wants to see what great photography looks like, check this out. Mark is traveling with fresh eyes and a love for the act of photographing. He is not shooting the cliches here. He is looking up, down, around and through. Kudos, Mark. Frank --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@y..., Bill Morse <willym@b...> wrote: > Mark, it's great to see more of your work. Hey, Mark, amazing stuff ! - thanks for letting us know here. This is what it's all about, bringing those kinds of images to life - throught all this tech we can't stop talking about <g>. I especially liked some of your "empty spaces", storefronts and the like. And your style of burning-in and tonal distribution makes these pictures really sing. That it also comes through on the web, is another miracle. I can't imagine what the _real_ prints look like. And did you have to ask those two kids to roll the tires - or was Cartier Bresson watching over you? <...g> Thanks again for sharing these pictures with us. Antonis

Hello Mark, You have achieved that which I am attempting to attain : the ability to see in black & white : in textures, shades and feelings. Thanks, Alex Pettit Jr. Orlando Fla --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@y..., "marktuckerdotcom" <mark@m...> wrote:

I too tried to install the MIS variables in my 7000. I had air in ALL
SIX lines! I returned the whole mess for a refund.
To Bob's credit, my sense is that he keeps refining and revising
the system. At this point, he's on the third or fourth variation.
Mike Kravit is using the system too. Might send him a private
note for tips. He had better luck than me.
As soon as I went back to 9000 carts, the problem disappeared
immediately. The cost savings with 9000 carts is so large that
it's not worth the hassle of a CIS for me.
Just my opinion.

Stephen,
First, are you using a CIS with your MIS VM inks? I think that is
what Mark is talking about. If so, I will tell you how to fix the
problem, it took months or experiementing and switching out parts
with MIS, but we finally have it working with no problems.
If you loaded carts and have air in the line, all the cleaning cycles
in the world will not help as the 7000 lines are very long. You need
to do an initial fill to purge the air. You do not have to remove the
ink, but just do the init fill.
Here is how it is done;
Epson 7000 - INITIAL CHARGE PROCEDURE
1 - Ensure printer is off.
2 - Hold 3 buttons down and turn on machine. The three (3) buttons
are:
a) "Paper feed +" ( Paper feed plus)"
b) "Paper feed -" ( Paper feed minus)
c) "Cut/Eject" (Enter)
3 - The LCD will display "Check : Test
4 - Press the "Paper Source" button four (4) times to toggle through
the
cleaning menu until the LCD displays : "Check : Cleaning".
5 - Press the "Enter" Button. The LCD will display "Cleaning :
Std.KK0"
6 - Press the "Paper Source" Button to toggle though the menu until
the LCD
displays "Cleaning : Init. Fill"
7 - Press the "Enter" Button to beginning the charging routing.
("Init.
Fill" = Initial Fill)
8 - When the charging routing is finished - you will need to turn the
printer OFF to exit these menus. Turn it back ON to begin normal
operation.
Hope this helps, it has always worked for me when I got air in the
lines. I have never used fantastic or windex on my 7000. I find the
heads are usually cleared by sitting or the cleaning cycles.
Let me know if this helps,
Mike

I will only add to this: I did not do EXACTLY what Mike is talking about, but I did get the lines to a point where they showed no air. The problem was that the air always tended to creep back in somehow, even after clearly viewing the lines as completely full. But, for sure, follow Mike's procedure and see what happens. He is much more experienced with this than I am. I think also a factor as to how high the bottles must be stored. Not too high; not too low. Mike will advise about this. Too much witchcraft for me....
2002-01-11 by mkravit
Mark is absolutley correct. The bottles must be placed no higher than 4" below the print heads and no lower than the base of the printer. Also even more important, the lines must NOT sag when they leave the 7000 cartridges. Self adhesive backed hooks to hold the lines parallel will keep gravity from pulling the ink from the heads and letting air get in. I have now had these parameters on my CIS for about a month and I have had no air infiltration. Also, it is important to make sure that all connection within the CIS, that is tubing connections must be sealed with silicone. Mike

Mike: Thanks for your input. Yes, I am using the MIS VM inkset in the Epson 7000 and recently had the Epson repair tek out here and the unit was realigned and working fine when he left. I did the install fill according to your detailed instructions and the same jet remained missing. Then I printed out a purge sheet and after that about 5 other jets now have gaps in the pattern. They were not plugged before I printed the purge sheet. I wonder if it has to do with the tubing diameter. When the first system leaked air, Bob sent me a double tube set with two tubes coming out of each cartridge instead of one. The diameter of the new tubing is even less than the old CIS system I received. I wonder the heads are unable to suck the ink up into the ink jet heads because of the small tubing. I even tried the old windex trick to no avail and applied it on the parking pads. Something is wrong as I now have for the first time several gaps in my head pattern indication air or much less likely particle blockage. Thoughts or ideas ?? Stephen Harrison
