3rd-party replacement for ultrachrome matte black - benefit?

3rd-party replacement for ultrachrome matte black - benefit?

2006-04-28 by maracaholics

Hello -- I'm contemplating if I could improve my 2200's d-max on matte
paper by using a third-party ink to replace just the matte-black
cartridge in my 2200. (Meanwhile, I'd stick with the OEM ultrachromes
on the other colors, so as to not rock the boat too much). Yes, I know
that an R2400 upgrade would get me a higher D-Max, but I don't feel
like replacing my 2200-with-ImagePrint6 system.

I know MediaStreet sells a G-Chrome (G6) matte black cartridge which
might accomplish this, but I have no confirmation as to whether it
would produce a better black than the 2200's OEM MK. Also, there's
probably a comparable ink sold by MIS. Anyone with info that might be
helpful? Should I go for it?

MIS Eboni. Many folks on this forum use it as part of a full MIS set. I also have a 2200, and
have not changed out the other Epson inks (yet...), only MK for Eboni. The difference will
astound you.

Thanks Sarah, that's good news. Which of the three MIS Eboni
cartridges do you use -- MIS lists for the 2200 three of them: One
that's part of their cheaper "ultrachrome" set, one that's part of
their "pro" set, and one that's part of their b&w "ultratone / UT7"
set.

I use UC-T0348-K. I see that there's a $2 difference between it and the other two, but I
have no idea why. Perhaps someone else can answer that question.

Let us know how you fare with it...I think you'll be very pleased.

Good luck!
Sarah

I talked to MIS about the difference between the three. They said
that for "Eboni," there is no difference. (Except perhaps in the part
numbers and maybe the labeling.) But you might wanna stock up on
those $9 UC-TO348-K carts, because those are part of an older "MIS
Ultrachrome" set that has since been replaced by the $11-apiece "MIS
Pro" set. Again, no difference in the Eboni ink, but there is a
difference in price while it lasts! I ordered today.
