It's not an aberration..QTR

It's not an aberration..QTR

2006-06-12 by Tim Timmermans

So I've done a couple more prints using QTR and the same thing is
happening. The prints look much better than the PS prints but the ink
is not adhering to the paper. I'm using an 1800 with standard inkset
and doing test prints on the Kirkland Premium Semigloss. The ink just
rubs off to the touch..almost like dust.

Whether it's a couple of minutes or a couple of days later the QTR
prints rub off the paper with the touch of a hand.

Has anyone else experienced this?

The curve is the default UC EEnhMATTEBLACK/blend 50/none

Printer model is QUAD R1800

And the paper setting is for Premium Semigloss paper.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Does anyone have any curves
they have created that you might be willing to share that render a
nice BW print?

Thanks,

Tim

Sounds like you are printing with the Mk on a glossy paper, when you
need the Pk.

I don't use the 1800, but doesn't it have both black isntalled and
pciks between them? I'm not sure how you (or QTR) tells it which
black to pick?

And does QTR tell it to run the Glop as well to coat it?

Ypur using a Matte Curve? but with semigloss paper settigns?

Well, Tim, there you have it: this profile is for a matte paper, and
is laying down Matte K ink on glossy paper-it obviously doesn't
work. Unfortunately, inb the stampede to get the 2400 up and
running, the authors of QTR didn't do much profiling for the R1800.
A shame, because if you get a good one, its a great machine for
this.

I'd like to suggest we set up a library on the forum for R1800
profiles, perhaps those of us using it can each contribute a couple.
I have one BO neutral (for RC Paper)I can contribute, and several
tailored to my custom MIS 3K (K4 inks) both matte and RC for neutral
and sepia. In the meantime, I'll email you the RC neutral BO
profile. The other thing you might try is reading the help file re:
making your own profiles. It's a bit confusing at first, but even
without linearising with a densitometer or scanner you can come up
with some fairly respectable results.

Also RE: the above setting; regardles of profile, you should set the
blend slider to 100% if you only use one profile/drop-down box; If
you leave it at 50% blend (or any mix ratio) you need something else
to mix it with, or your prints will look really funky.
