Loading 13x19 Silver Rag in R2400

Loading 13x19 Silver Rag in R2400

2006-09-08 by grue1970

hi,
should i be loading 13x19 Silver Rag in the manual sheet feeder (the
one in back where you attach a guide) or the auto sheet feeder (the
one that flips open on the top of the printer)?

reason i ask is that i did a print that in the mid-tones i get some
banding. i cleaned the heads, aligned, nozzel check and printed the
same image out 3 times, same banding, same areas. i did a small
version of the print about 5x7 on 8.5x11 silver rag and no banding.

my other thought, other than where to feed this paper into the
printer, is that i used "photo" quality rather than "best photo" or
"photo rpm".

thanks
steve

How about 13x19 on a different paper?

One thing to try is to change the resolution. Sometimes a certain
level of interpolation can cause banding, and when you get banding at
one size and not another it sounds like it might be that. Doesn't
hurt anything to try it. Happened to me once, only at a certain size.

Regards,
Clayton

Are you setting the printer to the thick paper setting?

no, infact i'm not. the paper didn't seem to thick for the normal sheet feeder, i'm going to check the resolution and try the manual feeder on the back (perhaps that feeder auto sets the thick paper?) i'm not exactly finding the user guide that helpful.

i have to wait until wednesday because i ran out of ink darn it.

You can just set the printer for thicker sheets via the printer
dialogue using the normal topload .

I'm going from memory, as I don't have it on this computer, but - if
printing from PS (windows), when the printer dialogue is open
(advanced), go to the back/most right hand tab along the top - where
all the alignment and cleaning options are. Click on the very bottom
option and there is a checkbox for thick paper

Even if it's not too thick for the normal sheet feeder, you may find
that it's too stiff. I'd suggest using the rear fead (Manual - Roll)
with this paper. That's what I use for Innova F-Type Gloss which is
similar to the Silver Rag in thickness although not quite as stiff.

i found the thick paper setting. thanks. worse than finding dialup settings in xp :)

the stiffness yes, that could be part of the equation when dealing with thicker papers, they can be more stiff also. i think i'm going to use the manual - roll feeder from now on and also avoid the "photo" setting. as i've seen a couple of references to banding now with the r2400 on lower settings (one just now in this digest!).

I'm curious what setting you're referring to? Aside from chooosing the
paper source and media type I've not seen any separate "thickness"
settign on the R2400...

See my earlier post (or check the Users Manual - p99... the Epson PDF
won't let me cut and paste)

Tim's post showed me where it was:
