I've just bought an Epson 2400 and seem to remember something here or elsewhere about leaving the printer on all the time or shutting it off after each day of printing. What are the pro's and con's of either school of thought? Scott Neuner

Until recently I was turning my 2400 off after each use but got tired of the cleaning cycles each time I turned it on. I read here that leaving it on avoided the cleaning purges so now I leave it on and I believe I'm saving ink. I haven't seen any clogs by leaving it on. I find that if I turn them off (especially the 4000), once turned on again, I fight clogged nozzles. Carolyn --- http://www.carolynfrayn.com

"Until recently I was turning my 2400 off after each use but got tired of the cleaning cycles each time I turned it on . . . ." Perhaps the 2400 is different than the 2200 but FWIW I turn the 2200 off except when in use. I was under the impression that leaving it on generated some heat that could cause the inks to dry out. I don't run cleaning cycles every time I turn it back on, I just run a cleaning cycle if I have a clog but I almost never have clogs, maybe a couple times a year if that. However, I'm certainly open to leaving it on if that's a better practice.

I've been running my 2200 for about three years. The only time I've shut it down is when the power fails (about four times a year out here in the country). I print about once every two weeks. If I don't print for a week, I generally run a nozzle check. Never had a clog and almost never have to clean the heads. Here's another vote for leaving the printers (2200 and 1280) on all the time. Works better for me... Bert katzung1@... www.astronomy-images.com www.visionlightgallery.com/katzung/
