Does a comprehensive list exist for current printers that allow you to choose "Black Only" from the driver? I'd like an inexpensive machine that allows for this. I'd use it with MIS Eboni Black ink.

What size prints? 8.5x11 prints only. under $150.00, but I'd still like to see a comprehensive list of all machines that do it, regardless of cost...if one exists. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "djon43" <djon43@...> wrote:

Find Clayton Jones...if anybody knows, he does. fyi, I've proven to my own satisfaction that Black Only is an inferior way to make prints unless one isn't bothered by the dots...which are quite evident in sharp paper. The smaller the print the more significant the dots because they remain fixed in size irrespective the print size. They look something like grain in small prints, vanish in larger prints at "viewing distance." I think it can be attractive with grainless files such as digicam but it conflicts with grain if you're working with a high resolution scan of silver film.

Here's Clayton Jones http://www.cjcom.net/digiprnarts.htm ...and here are all the Epson printers and their MIS inks. SOME of them can use Eboni, not all I think. I don't think any but Epson use Eboni, so this link may direct you to all possible Black Only printers that use the ink you want to use. http://www.inksupply.com/qn.cfm --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@... m, "djon43" <djon43@...> wrote:

i did BO printing w/ Epson 1280, but sold it prior to getting a 2400. big mistake. for black and white prints i got better results w/ BO, 1280 method...actually, much better than anything i've been able to eek out of the 2400 following Clayton's 2400 instructions. also, i no longer need wide format. finally, i don't shoot film. my files come from a canon 5d. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "djon43" <djon43@...> wrote: > > --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Kevin" > <vinket@> wrote: > > > > 8.5x11 prints only. under $150.00, but I'd still like to see a > comprehensive list of all > > machines that do it, regardless of cost...if one exists. > > Find Clayton Jones...if anybody knows, he does. > > fyi, I've proven to my own satisfaction that Black Only is an inferior > way to make prints unless one isn't bothered by the dots...which are > quite evident in sharp paper. i have been using a c88+ one based on the recommendations from this site along with the help from Paul's website. I had none of the problems Paul mentions. Perhaps it is beginners luck.

I think B/O makes more sense with digicam/dslr files (maybe also with converted color film files?)than with silver film scans. 2400 prints I've seen in exchanges have not been consistently as beautiful as 2200, 220, 1280 etc with various inks, but that may be because 2400 makes things easier, demanding less skill. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Kevin" <vinket@...> wrote:

thanks Paul and Ann Ann, are you printing Black Only and with MIS Eboni Black? Also, do you actually get to click on "Black Ink Only" from the driver in the setup? I think it's worth stating again that I got very good results from the Epson 1280. But it's long gone now. I'd like the same results from a machine with a smaller footprint. I no longer print larger than 8.5x11. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, ann clancy <jaclancy1937@...> wrote: > > i have been using a c88+ one based on the recommendations from this site along with the help from Paul's website. i am using the inks from MIS, and to be truthful, it has been a few months since i have been printing anthing using that printer, and so i am not sure ; but i don't remember using the function black ink only.
I basically used Paul's "numbers" for the papers on his website.
sorry i can't be more helpful.

I have a C88+ and just made three black-only prints on Photo Rag for a print exchange. They came out great -- no banding at all. I am using the Epson OEM inks. For what it's worth, on the C86 I used to own, I found that the stock Epson inks gave me good BO results, while the MIS Eboni ink in the K position gave a lot of banding. On that topic, does anyone know if MIS makes an ink that is close in properties to Epson's OEM black ink?
