Head strikes

2008-02-27 by Peter De Smidt

Hi Folks,

I've been getting some head strikes with my R2400 using Ilford Gold
Silk. It's just at the end of the sheet. I think it's just after the
paper leaves the last support that it rises a little. Anyone have
experience with this? Any ideas as to what to do? I really like the
paper, but this is very annoying!

Regards,
Peter

Dear Peter,
I had a simillar experience on my 7600 both with the Ilford Gold and with a 350gsm Cotton Fabric we use for fine art printing. The UK Epson repair center told me to remove the "Cutting Blade" as it can snag on thicker substrates, and wasn't much use anyway. I don't know if you have a blade on that printer but if you have, that may be the cause. We have not had any problems since, if you want the details contact me direct.

Regards

Back roll the sheet first to get rid of curl and add more humidity to
your environment.

Peter;
I've been getting something similar with both my 11880 and 7800--not
really a "strike"--more of a head drag across the surface of Gold Silk.
To find out what was happening I directed some light at an angle on the
surface of the paper while printing and found that the Ilford cockles a
bit just as the ink is applied, causing the head to contact the surface.

The paper recovers quickly and is flat again once it emerges from the
printer. Not sure if you can do this on your 2400, but I can increase my
platen height a couple of steps and this has cured the problem.

Hi Patrick,

Yeah, that's what I have, but it's only on the end of the sheet. I
tried selecting "thick" media in the driver, to no avail. I don't think
I can adjust the platen height on my r2400. Maybe someone will chime in
if I'm wrong.

Thanks to all the suggestions, I'll certainly give them a try.

Regards,
Peter
