I can assure you Antonis did not mean that in the spirit you are taking it.
Antonis is a gentleman even when provoked. I'm sure he means that until you
have a basic knowledge of PS you won't need ALL it's newest features, and by
the time you are ready for the whole hog PS7 might be available. IOW, get
started with what you have, then see how you feel.

I personally like the PS6 advancements, I'm glad I have it, but I too feel
that PS 5.5 offers plenty to start with.

I think we got the Johns mix up. I deleted my 'rude' post when I
realized Anton was addressing the originator of the topic - John
Schubert	- not me, I'm the other John on this list who has been
on this list for a while.

Should have kept my post up and not deleted it as it's going to
create even more confusion.

Good luck to all of us (:-)

John V.

No it wasn't... it was the truth. It takes years to learn Photoshop, and
then some... and then you'll keep learning. Might as well start with the
upgrade that has brought color management to a level of better
comprehension... and take Antonis's tip on working space.

Man...this is taking too much energy to explain!

It was not rude when refering for John Schubert's post but I
thought Antonis's post was refering to my post #9971 then
relized he was not and deleted my post but some of you will get
it through email.

Actually I just bought a G4 Dual 1 Gig knowing Apple will be
coming out with a whole new hardware system this July...but I
could not wait as I needed to get work done now. Anyway it
seems like money is tight for John Schubert so I still think John
Schubert should wait a month or two to get Photoshop 7 since it
will take a lifetime to learn and few months will not make a
difference. If it was six months then I'd say get Photoshop 6 now.

Sheesh! I need a drink!

John Vitollo

I looked at a G4 in NYC last weekend, and Photoshop 7 (beta)
was installed on that demo machine. Does this mean that the
final release is soon?

What is expected in new features? Anybody know for sure?

seems like a good read, but probably nothing further to what you saw on the
demo.

Thought there would be an article in photoshop user mag this month but...
maybe next month. They always have great write ups for the upcoming
releases. There is one on digital vs film though.

Check out half-way down the page - it mentions this Monday is
the release - but who knows for sure!

Carolyn, is it Photoshop USER or Photoshop INSIDER that is the real

I think it's just that a lot of mac users are graphics people and so PS and
other graphics programmes get discussed a lot more on those sites.

As I recall with PS6, all the detailed reviews and screenshots of the Beta
version I saw were on Mac sites. But as i recall, most of the latest
versions of PS came out MAC/PC together

Hi Jerry... It's Photoshop User Magazine. You have to become a member of
their association (National Association of Photopshop Professionals) which
is of course a fancy way to get the subscription but you get those so cool
stickers to show everyone your an associate <g>... it's a great publication.

Tim,

If it's like Illustrator, it will require at least system 9.2 to run.
Note, not system 9, but Nine point TWO.

After working with system 10 for about 2 months, I hate it more than any
other operating system I've ever used. Thank God Illustrator 10 will run
on 9.2! Sure hope that Photoshop 7 does.

Jerry;

I recently bought a new g4 and it has both 9.2 & 10 on it. I have played
a bit with 10 but I'm still doing all my work on 9.2. So far.... I like
9.2 better. Is it just me OR does 10 look too much like a MS windows OS
with the dock and file extentions and such :(

Re: [Digital BW] Re: Photoshop 7, was Photoshop 5.0

Hi Jeff,

I don't like System 10.1 because it is not at all intuitive, and the
fonts on screen are way too small for me to read comfortably, and
there's no way to change them at the present time. There's also just too
much clutter and an awful lot of items are not where you would expect
them to be. Also had a lot of trouble with sherlock 2, and it can never
find anything because my volume is not "indexed". The dialogue box says
it will take over a hundred hours to index, and when it't doing that in
the background, programs run three or four times slower. etc. etc. I
like 9.2, and will use it as long as I can. Oh, and like you mentioned,
it also looks a bit too much like MS windows, and you wouldn't want to
know what I think of THAT software. Can't use language like that on a
forum. :)

Jerry,

Try indexing over night. My Mac always says it will take 45+ hours, but that
number falls away and it usually takes an hour.

Yeah, it does look like windoze... or does XP look like the Mac... :)

[Digital BW] Re: Photoshop 7, was Photoshop 5.0

2002-02-21 by marktuckerdotcom

I read somewhere that PS7 was to fully address the
dual-processor factor on the Mac. Would that be something like
"native" DP, for the first time?

I wonder if this dual processor speed-up works only with OSx, or
if you'd still get this same performance with 9.2?

For me, I'll be sticking with 9.2 for a very long time. I get dizzy
when I run my mouse over that dock thing at the bottom, and it
gets all wide-angley, like a fisheye lens. I lose my vertigo.

All I want is killer speed, and killer stability. And I want to be done
with SCSI forever and ever. I'm a
Firewire-hot-swappable-no-SCSI-ID kinda guy now. But it won't
involve OSx, whatever the combination.

With OS X, the operating system itself takes advantage of the
dual chips, while OS 9 does not. But there are some functions in
Photoshop that take advantage of the dual chips in OS 9 - such
as unsharp mask, gausion blur and I belive rotation. Just how
much more will Photoshop take advantage of the dual chips in
OS X is anyones guess until it's revealed. The new operating
system has more code to deal with so it does need a faster
processer.

Wether or not Photoshop will be faster in OS X I'm not sure - the
buzz from the Adobe User to User Forum is that it will be the
same same - but who really knows till we see it.

Mark the Dual Gig G4 is fast as all hell - just got mine last week
still working on configuring it. Opens Photoshop in six seconds!
Full rezz 50+ meg scans from my Scsi Polaroid 4000 take one
minute - that's in OS 9.

I chose the 1 Gig Dual as anything less with OS X is sluggish
and since it's the operating system of the future well I thought
what the heck. OS X is a different beast to say the least I'm
forcing myself to use it more and more...it's just too pretty to look
at.

Best,

John V.
