as it happened, i never tried the mu metal.  i didn't find the price 
prohibitive, since it only required 20$ to do the job, and i did find 
that goofy sheilding company kinda charming, but i did something else 
which turned out pretty easy.

i drilled a hole through the wood strip across the bottom of the 
front panel, cut the rca cable coming from the pc board halfway 
between the board and the jacks, threaded the remaining lenth of 
cable through the hole, screwed the module in, and soldered the jack-
end of the cable back onto the rest of the cable.  whenever i pack up 
the suitcase for a gig, i just unplug the tank (which sits wherever 
away from the psu) and tuck the cable in along with my patch mess and 
close the door.

doesn't answer your question, but if i recall correctly you already 
drilled mults in your wood strip, so you probably wouldn't find 
another hole sacrelige.
