Re: blowing fuses

Phil,

Hello. Thanks for getting back to me. It has the PSU2 power supply.
I had all of the modules tested in the G6 before I bought it. I'm
not sure what the total draw of my modules is. How can I do that?
Please let me know.

Take care,
Thomas

blowing fuses

2006-04-19 by Control

Hello,

I was hoping someone on this list could help me. Every time I turn
on one of my Doepfer G6s it blows a fuse. I haven't changed anything in
the case. The modules in the case have been there for about a year.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Take care,
    Thomas

Hi Thomas,
You should probably give a bit more info, which power supply?
What's the total power draw of your modules? I had this happen once when I
went over the max power. But then it was fine.

Thomas,

An A-100 PSU shouldn't draw nearly enough current to blow a fuse. Are you
running anything else on the same circuit? Please be aware that other
appliances may run on the same circuit even though they are connected to
another wall outlet in another room.

Kind regards,

Silas

He is not talking about the fuse of the house, but about the mini fuse
in the G6-racks power connector socket.

You may use http://www.doepfer.de/pub/A100_Sys.xls. It is an MS-Excel
based planning sheet which sums the price ;-) and the power consumption.
Simply select how many of each module type you are using in which frame.
The excel formula will give you the complete power consumptio nof your
modules.

As second you should check, what type of fuse exactly you are using. The
type is usually written on the metal end of the fuse.

ok maybe i'm talking nonsense, but if there is an A112
module in this 6U case, maybe there is a battery
leakage inside the A112 that causes a short-circuit to
happen? that may explain the fact that this
fuse-blowing did not happen before...also, with a PSU2
it seems highly unlikely to me that the total current
draw surpasses the 1200mA's...

Please look if the right fuse is used (www.doepfer.com > FAQ), e.g. 500 mA
for PSU2 and 115V. In every case a time lag fuse has to be used. As the
specified values are very "conservative" you may even use the next higher
fuse value (e.g. 600 or 700mA) without problems as in case of a fault (e.g.
short circuit) even these fuses will blow. Pay attention to use slow blow
fuses (time lag). Normal/medium or fast fuses will blow in every case as the
ring core transformer has a high initial current during power on.

To find out the total current of all modules you may use the A-100 Excel
planning file on our website (MS Excel required).

Best wishes
Dieter Doepfer

RE: [Doepfer_a100] blowing fuses

2006-04-19 by Zoran Bosnjak

I had somewhat similar problem - the fuse would blow maybe once in 10 times
when powering the case on. And it is a brand new case, with new 1.2 A power
supply. Mr. Doepfer advised to use higher value than 0.5 A fuse, and he sent
me two different kinds (0.63, and 0.8 A fuses), because I could not find
these values in local stores in Montreal (they sell 0.5 A and 1 A only).

I am using 0.63 A fuse (slow blow of course) at the moment, and it did not
blow on me yet.

Regards,

Zoran

Thanks to everyone for your help. I truly appreciate it. It turned
out to be th A-112. Weird. Thanks Bakis and everyone else.

Take care,
Thomas
