a190 problems

a190 problems

2007-10-12 by sam

hello
i'm finding that every time i turn on my modular i have to reset the scale on my a190
interface. i have saved it using the procedure outlined in the manual but still everytime i
need to reset it. there was a time when it would periodically retain the settings after
powering down but now it never seems to. any idea what the problem could be? it's starting
to drive me nuts and i am a patient man.
thanks!
sam

Hi Sam,

Check that all the socketted ICs are well seated, especially the
small 8-pin DIL at the top edge of the board, marked '24C16' - that
is an EEPROM chip and very likely is where such information is stored
when the power is off. (The square chip below it, 44 pins, is the
processor, and left of that, another DIL, with 28 pins, is the ROM
chip holding the software. The only other socketted chip on mine is a
MAX531, a digital-to-analog converter, so it is unlikely to be that
causing the problem.)

If that doesn't fix it, then you're going to need some proper help I
suspect!

Tim

Hi Tim,

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Your suggestion worked! I'm very relieved...I'm
sure you can imagine how annoying it has been to have to re-scale every time i turn it on.
thanks again!

Sounds like a problem of the non-volatile memory (EEPROM) or an operating
error during the storage procedure. As I'm not the A-190 specialist please
contact Matthias Marras (keyboards-at-doepfer-dot-de). He is our A-190
specialist and is responsible for service and repairs of the A-190.

Best wishes
