synch'ing the bbd

hi group,

i'm looking to controlling the delay time of an a188 bbd according to
the tempo of the piece being played (which is not set by the a100
itself). is there a way to convert, say, pulses from the a190 clock
output to a cv ? a kind of very lf to cv converter, i supppose is what
i mean.

or, come to that, can someone suggest a better/different approach?

From the theory a low pass filtered pulse with constant pulse width should
do that job, e.g. an A-162 trigger delay (delay time = minimum, lenght = ?)
followed by an A-170 slew limiter should work. You will have to try the gate
length and slew limiter setting to obtain the desired CV. The A-162 length
should be a bit shorter than the shortest period of the clock signal
(tempo). The slew limiter setting defines the ripple of the CV.

many thanks, dieter. so this is how a pitch to cv converter works?
fortunately i have both modules here, so i can report that it was very
successful, although i have yet to do the fine tuning necessary for a
linear relationship between the tempos - but then the non-linearities
are wicked too, as so often with all this modular stuff :)

and any patch with a ripple parameter must be good!

hello,
i'm trying to understabd this:
in order to achieve a delay sync effect, could one
connect the clock out of the a190 to the clock input
of the a188 bbd module?
would this work?
i thought that the bbd modules need a high speed clock
to work...
explain please?
if you connect a modified (via the a162 and a slew
limiter module) clock pulse of the a190, to the  clock
cv input of the a188, what would you achieve with
this?
this does not make an a188 synced to midiclock...

Yes, in principle. But this procedure is not very fast because of the
required low pass filter. Our planned pitch-to-CV converter will work a bit
different. The period of the incoming (rectangle) signal is measured by a
microcontroller. It calculates the voltage that corresponds to the measured
period very fast and outputs the voltage by means of a DAC (probably with 12
or 14 bit resolution). The main problem is not this part of the circuit but
the "anything"-to-rectangle converter. "Anything" means any kind of
monophonic sound source, like human voice, guitar, bass, flute, violin ...

Yes. The patch i described for Stu generates a control voltage from the
A-190 clock to drive the CV input of the A-188-1/2, but not the clock input
! The A-162/A-170 combination derives a voltage that is (in theory)
proportional to the clock frequency of the A-190. And this is used to drive
the high speed VCO of the A-188-1/2.

no. It has to be connected to the CV input !

i do this often with bass and vocals, and have found the a160 clock
divider to be an excellent anything-to-pulse converter - apart from
the fact that i can't get the original frequency out of it, just
sub-octaves :)

it also works fine with most osc waves, although it does "jam" when
using square waves (i haven't done this with a vco for ages, so i hope
that's right).

i haven't yet managed to set up the patch you suggested to set up a
linear tempo/cv curve - the cv changes are a little too small (but i
must confess that i got totally distracted by the joys of a super
-lofi pitch-to-cv coverter :))

Yes, or any other clock signal (e.g. LFO, VCLFO ...).
