the only other analog frequency shifter i've used is the one made by 360 Systems (two different units, years ago), and i always wanted one...there is no way i can compair by memory, but i'm extremely happy with my Doepfer A-126...i've ran guitar/voice/metal percussion/etc thru it, and it works great in other patches as well...if there is a difference in sound compaired to higher priced mods, i'm not interested because i could afford the Doepfer, and i most likely would never buy the others because they are simply too expensive for me...

Subject: [Doepfer_a100] Frequency Shifter comparisons to AS Shifter?

Anybody got any experience of how the A126 module compares with the
(significantly) more expensive Analogue Systems one? Is there a reason
for the price difference is terms of sound quality?

I am interested in how you guys are actually using the A126 frequency shifter. The only one i have is an alesis bitrman pedal, but I have found no use for it all so far....

I hope, you want to say: you did not find a use for the frequency
shifter algorithm in the bitrman - as the other algorithms in the
bitrman are extraordinary good.

I cannot tell what the Bitrman really does in frequency shift mode, but
it is for sure not a frequency shifting like in a Bode derived shifter.
Worst thing is, that it shifts only up, not down.

Nevertheless, this (alesis-)algorithm is very nice for percussive
things. The Bitrman is constantly connected to my TR-808 and Xbase09 and
does wonderful things to them.

I have the A-142-9 Vc Quadrature LFO connected to the A-126, this
results in very slow modulations of the A-126. If you put the up and
down outputs to the left and right speakers, you get a nice 3D panning
of the sound. (I still have to make a dual switch to disconnect the
A-143-9 from the A-126. And a dual potmeter for modulation depth would
be cool to, but I haven't found the time yet.)

If you use the mix out of the A-126 its just a ringmodulator with
build in oscillator. Frequency shifters, ringmodulators and vca's are
all part of the same family. Cool things happen if you feedback the
mix output into the a-126 and turn the mix knob. Then change the
amount of shift and very weird but musical sounds will occur.
