If you'd opt for a three-position switch, then you could easily label the divisions next to the output jacks in three columns, like so: 2/3/3 3/5/5 4/6/7 etc... ...or similar. The reason this idea came to mind was a recent piece in The Times referring to a lecture by Marcus du Sautoy at the Royal Society available here: http://royalsociety .org/Video- Library/#

I'm interested in the upcoming SDIY synth board but i wonder since there are
no support for it and if it fails later on, can i repair it myself? What components
do it use, can i find these on the open market, are they expensive like special
or difficult to find? I'm thinking of things like the exponential transistor pairs or
the OTA's use in VCF and VCA?

I haven't had a board in my hands yet, so my guess is as good as yours. Still, I'm quite sure Doepfer did not use any rare and/or expensive parts, given the end-user price of the board, and the fact that any forward thinking manufacturer would be wise enough not to do so unless he wants to be overwhelmed with problems of this nature... And in case a problem should arise -- which I think will be unlikely because it's a relative simple board -- there's quite a few sources out there to obtain ultra-rare and/or obsolete parts (contrasting what many in the DIY community want you to believe). Of course there will be support, but not for the customers assembly but only for the DIY board. This is why we are about to modify the board for the usage of dual row pin headers (like the A-100 bus connectors) so that dual row female connectors with ribbon cables can be used to connect all potentiometers, switches, LEDs, sockets and no on. In this case no soldering at the DIY synth board is necessary and it can be disconnected very easily from the customers assembly for service. In case that indeed the board is defective it can be sent in for repair by disconnecting it from the customers assembly. We will have a test environment that allows to check out very fast if the synth board is working as it should or if there is a fault. Best wishes Dieter Doepfer

Thanks for the reply. Well, no i didn't misunderstood, just interpreted the red highlighted tex on the product pages, thats all. If you say so that you will be able to repair boards nice,fine, i assume that will be some kind of charge for doing so.. Anyhow there will be a balance point for you because there will be pople who will modify and or dabbling about with the circuit and in that case you have to make a decision whom to reject and whom not to reject for service when things fail. Every number has a unique decomposition as a product of primes. So if the dividers that do only prime divisions, then you can get the composite divisions by daisy-chaining several together. (i.e. to get a 6 division daisy-chain 2 with 3). Because of this property a primes-only module is more useful than a Fibonacci-only module, since you will get a more diverse set of divisions via daisy-chains. (Also 8 is Fibonacci and the A160 already does division by 8). Unfortunately Dieter cannot make a module that does all and only prime divisions, since then he would create a small machine that would solve many hard math problems faster than our fastest supercomputers. ...or maybe he can.... Hi Martin The idea behind dividers using prime numbers is that they would be arhythmic, good at non-repeating patterns. I've had a reply from Nicholas at erthenvar, who said, "I'll add you to a list for a Fibonacci. I have assembled units but I'm missing 1 piece which is in storage, so I hope it won't be too long. I chose to do Odd instead of Prime. Unfortunately I seem to have chosen wrong because many folks request Prime." He suggests that there's not a great deal of difference between Odd 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 and Prime 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19. and there's a deal of truth in that, though, of course, 15 is non-prime.
