Perhaps he's thinking about phantom powered mics?

If I'm guessing correctly and you are dealing with mics then what
you'd want to do is preamp the mic to a line level and then do
whatever routing and mixing you need at line levels. You can read up
on phantom power with some web searching, in a nutshell many but not
all pro mics need 48v (at very low amperage) going *into* them or
they won't function. You need some device to supply the phantom
power. You could use a stand alone preamp or a mixer strip channel
with it's own insert connection to pull the signal from. The preamp's
line out won't be 48v! You can power a mic needing phantom power
with a box that just does phantom power but you'll have mic level out
and I'd think it might make your concept work better if you deal with
only unbalanced line level signals.

Thanks for your help, all answers has been very useful to me, still - after reading the manual - I don't understand the A-152 and how to use it?
Can I switch between 8 different audio signals and can I for instance have 1,2,6 out at the same time?
And then switch to 4,5 and 8?

You can treat the A-152 as a rotary switch with 8 positions. If you eight
A-152 with internally normalled inputs (i.e. all inputs #1 are connected,
all inputs #2 are connected and so on) you can switch each signal to each of
the 8 outputs.

In the example below you have eight outputs available at the same time and
for each output you can define to which of the eight inputs it is connected
(via eight CVs, one for each output, kind of a 8x8 CV controlled matrix)

Hi Dieter.
Could you please send me the example again, I didn't get any attachments and I tried to contact the administrator to enable attachments - but nothing happened.
Thanks.

I have tested the Doepfer A- 152, but it doesn't seem to suit my needs.
Is it possible to change the CV inputs of the A-150 to a trigger input?
Or maybe it's too expensive?
Thanks

Re: Can I trigger the CV on the Doepfer A-150 ?

2010-04-20 by Simon

I use the A-150 as a gate; audio/CV signal IN1, nothing in IN2, audio out I/O.

I know that the A-151 is capable of this - I have one myself - but since the A-150 is made of two identical modules, this would save me a lot of rack space.
The thing is that I would need six A-150 instead of twelve A-150!

The MT9 midi-trig from Analogue Solutions can switch between nine trigger signals and what is very important, I can make Max/Msp switch between the nine triggers in any order I like.
So with two MT9 and six A-150 it would be possible to have plenty of "gates" incorporated in my modular system and only use 44 HP of rack space.
Isn't this the best solution, if the A-150 can be triggered, for my system?

Best wishes
Simon

Re: Can I trigger the CV on the Doepfer A-150 ?

2010-04-20 by Simon

Well, the thing is that my Doepfer 5V adaptor broke, so I haven't tested the MT9 yet, but I have ordered one that will arrive today.

MT9:
"Introduction
The MT9 is a MIDI to triggering module. It allows triggering of a range of analogue devices; drum voice modules, envelope modules, analogue sequencers, analogue drum machines, and anything else with a gate, trigger or clock input.
It has 9 separate 5v trigger outputs, so 9 devices can be independently triggered via separate MIDI keys. There is also an ACCent output.

ACCENT
The ACC is an on (5v) / off (0v) output. When velocity of over 80 is received for any of the 9 triggers, then the Accent will go high (5v). Lower than 80 the output will go low (0v). Use this output to control other analogue modules.
Note: it is not directly compatible with the drum module ACC inputs. The naming of this socket is perhaps misleading if you use our drum modules. The drum modules require a different type of accent signal; 12v on, about 5v off. We may (or may not) make an 'Accent' add-on module.

Outputs:
9 independent trigger outs + Accent on/off
MIDI Thru
Power supply:
+5V, GND Doepfer A100 type power sockets"

I believe it's a short trigger signals and this would be perfect for switching the A-150, if the CV input was a trigger input...

Thanks, I really appreciate your help.
Best wishes
Simon

From what you asked for several A-152 should be right solution.

Anyway: What should the A-150 trigger input do:

a) toggle between the two inputs ?
b) switch to input #2 as long the trigger signal is high ?

Version a) is already available with the A-150. If you want to toggle
between 2 inputs the A-151 could be used (limited to 2 steps by means of the
switch).

Does your MT9 output 9 gates (i.e. the output remains high until the
corresponding note off message is transmitted) or only short trigger signals
? If gate signals are available the A-150 should do the job. Otherwise A-151
can be used (in this case the state changes with each trigger pulse).

From my point of view it would be better if gate signals are available. Then
you can decide the gate length (and consequently the time how long the A-150
switches to the second channel) by Midi note on and off events (like our
MTC64).
