FreeDOS disk image?

FreeDOS disk image?

2005-05-04 by Joe McMahon

Does anyone still have this to upload to the files section? Mine's gone
AWOL and EDE isn't working on my HP, no matter what compatibility I
request.

Re: FreeDOS disk image?

2005-05-07 by numaniod2005

I downloded the files now but when I click on install.bat it won't
run. All I get is the massage "The system file is not suitable for
running MS-DOS". I clicked on ignore but but the MS-DOS screen closes
and northing happens? I have now copied it on to a floppy but what do
I do with it now?
I want to get the sounds files I downloaded on to floppy so I can get
them on the synth but this is proving to be
a bit
of a pain in the ????.

I guess from the lack of response, know one can help me on this?. I
should have stuck with my SY85. At least I could download sounds from
sites and put them straight on to floppy disk and then on the 85
without all this hassle.

Re: FreeDOS disk image?

2005-05-20 by Claus

There are a lot ways to get sounds to Your VFX - U could also use a
SYS-EX utility to transfer the sounds via a MIDI cable - thats pretty
nice to, as U can of course load whole banks this way too.

The problem U have with GieblerEDE is that Your floppydrive OR BIOS
doesn´t support the structure the Ensoniq disks need. I think it
has
something to do with the (OLD) PC-floppys being 720KB and the Ensoniq
using 800KB. (Someone told me that an old ATARI/AMIGA drive could be
used if the internal floppy of the VFX went out, although I donn´t
know if it´s true).

I´ll look for some files I have, testing the BIOS of your HP for
EDE
compatability (unless U have done that), and get back to this as soon
as possible!

Re: FreeDOS disk image?

2005-05-20 by numaniod2005

I have now relocated the synth into the living room. but it's about 9
feet from the pc,It's on near nearest free wall space! What would I
need to conect the two together (apart from a very long lead) the pc
has USB ports on the back and a sireil port on the sound card, but no
midi sockets?. Maybe an SYSex file tranfer would be best in the end?

Re: FreeDOS disk image?

2005-05-21 by Claus

The cable length is no problem - MIDI cables can be at least 40 feet
long!!

The connector on your soundcard is the Joystickport, isn´t it?
U can get a MIDI-interface that connects a MIDI In and Out + Joystick
on the Joystick port - and should cost around 25$+15$ for a couple of
MIDI cables. U´ll need both In and Out connected to really get the
usefullness of sysex, as U can both Up & Download sounds in your VFX
to arrange Youre own Bank/s.

Hope this helps ;)

Very nice!
The MIDI specs say a max. of approx. 45 feet. I think it is...
