Original Ensoniq EEPROM Cartridges - a question

Original Ensoniq EEPROM Cartridges - a question

2007-07-02 by falconjohnney

I was wondering if anyone has an original EEPROM (aka RAM) cart-
ridge for their VFX or SD-1. What is the Ensoniq part number?
Can anyone post a picture of what their cartridge case looks
like?
                                         Thanks, John.

There is a modification that can be done to a normal cartridge where
you change the preset PROM for a EEPROM.
Here you go:-

http://www2.pro-ns.net/~steve/vfxcart.html

I guess both are rare to find anyway these days.
Ive got a VPC-100 cartidge here.
Infact i thinking of selling my VFX as im moving soon and i need to
downsize everything.
If anyone wants the details PM me.
Im in the UK.

Please define "won't power up".....if you have switched the power switch on and off a few times and mean there are no lights, no display, etc....check the power cord, fuse, etc.....or maybe the power supply has gone......the battery will not keep the unit from lighting up....

Today it powered up ( the display lit up the "Warning low battery" message, and the sounds that I have saved on the cartridge were able to be heard through the headphones)

But, last night the unit would not power up. No display, no sound through the headphones. Nothing. It's the wierdest thing. I have a few Ensoniq boards so I took a power cord from one of the other units last night and tried it...But I got nothing.

I have pampered this board all it's life and now it's getting a little tweaky.
I love this board.

I think i remember this happening to my VFX.
The user ram gets scrambled and crashes it when it boots.
Sounds like you need to replace the battery so that process will
clear out the ram.
You will have to reinitialize the VFX after then it should work ok if
theres no other issues with it.
The PSU's can be a problem on these, dry joints and failing caps.
I think i need to do mine as it goes..

Thanks. I will definately have a tech friend help me out with this when I get a new battery. I am thinking about the one with the battery holder that "Route 66" sells.
Heard anything about those?
