Hi, Big thanks to everyone for the suggestions on getting the drives fixed. It gave me some great pointers on where to look. I'll be taking the drives out of the IIx this weekend and will give them a good cleaning. I don't know yet if the drives are 50 Hz models. But I'm guessing this will be marked on them somewhere? As far as we know the unit has always been in Europe. This particular unit was bought in France. I checked that all the cards in the IIx are positioned in the right slots. There could be an alignment problem between the different drives. But we did try 3 different boot disks each one made on a different unit. These floppies could all be read by my IIx but not on the broken unit. Another thing that I need to check out is the flat cable that runs from the disk controller card to the drives. It could be that this got damaged somehow. I'll keep the forum posted. Regards, David
