Wasn't it when the Pro 5 used Curtis the Fairlight used SSM and vice versa?

I'd still love to know more about the III's filters and why the change!

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Guys,

For the record the CMI 2X used Curtis and SSM filters.

Rev 1 channels cards : Curtis
Rev 2 Curtis
Rev 3 SSM
Rev 4A SSM

I have still yet to decide which actually sounds better. At the moment I
feel that the Rev 3 / 4 channel cards sound slightly warmer and the filter
seems to open up nicer but its hard to say !

Regards,

James Thomson

Yes. The Prophet 5 rev.1 and rev.2 used SSM chips while the rev.3 used CEM
chips. However the filter chip used in the Prophet 5 was a SSM 2040 while
the one in the Fairlight was a SSM 2044. AFAIK the 2040 was very sensitive
to static electricity. The 2044 was more robust; it was also used in the
Korg Polysix and MonoPoly or the PPG Wave.

also used the SSM2044 in the EMU SP-1200 !

the SSM2045 was used in the Emulator II,
which I have and enjoy using a lot too.

The IIL that belonged to Queen is in the Channel Islands. I know who has it
but the last time I talked to this guy it was not working. I haven't taked
to him in a while and I won't give his name without permission.
Cheers
Colin

PS See Nick Rhodes has bought a Fairlight again. Can't wait to here new
stuff. AHHH "So Red The Rose" what an album.
