Hi James,
I've read that it's not adviserable to extend a SCSI cable longer than 18 feet. If you need a longer distance, you should have a SCSI repeater box in between. Granitedigital have repeaters for 50 pin SCSI:
James, Will you be so kind to tell me where you've bought your 8" floppy drive, what brand & model number and if the CMI2x and CMI III use the same 8" drive?
I might have to buy one.
Best regards
Brian

Hi Guys,

I have just bought a 8 " floppy drive which is in its own external powered
case. The idea is that I want to use this drive for my sound disks but have
it in front of me, most likely on the CMI keyboard itself.
Do any of you know what is the longest cable I can run from the CMI
mainframe to this external drive ? I will keep the drives in the CMI as
they are but unhook drive 1 ( drive 0 is the system floppy ) and extend the
50 pin connector to the external box. I was thinking that a 50 pin SCSI
cable might be the best solution.
I know that everyone is asleep here at the moment bit I would appreciate
some help with this. :-)
Thanks!

Hi Brian,

I was lucky and managed to buy a brand new 8 \u201c drive here from a private seller here in the U.K. The CMI series 3 and CMI 2X use the same 8 R20; drives. Normally Mitsubishi , YE Data or Qume. My CMI 2X has two YE Data YD 180 drives.
SCSI is completely different. I was only thinking of using SCSI 50 pin standard because the pin amount matches the 50 pin of the 8 \u201c floppy.
I would be happy if I could extend drive 1 by 3 meters !

Cheers,

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
