Emu Emulator 1 v. CMI IIx

Emu Emulator 1 v. CMI IIx

2007-10-29 by daniel_iix

Soliciting opinions from those with experience on both machines.

I am a former CMI IIx owner, loved it (obviously), but had to sell for
financial reasons a few years ago - was buying a house at the time.

That being said, I have the opportunity to buy an Emu Emulator I with
literally all options - JL Cooper GenMod, JL Cooper MIDI interface,
Analog Voltage interface, large library and all software - for what I
feel is a fair price.

My question is, how does the E1 compare sonically with the CMI?
Obviously the features are far slimmer than the CMI, and the interface
quite different, but realistically I do not anticipate ever owning
another CMI.

I loved the character of the CMI, the breathiness of the samples; I
know I'm preaching to the choir here...

My apologies for the semi-off topic nature, but I would greatly
appreciate any input.

Cheers!

Hello, I had both the IIx and the E1 I still have the
E1 and I will not sell it! it sounds great, different
than a IIx, but great! I do not regret selling my
IIx's they went to a good home, but the E1 will fill
your need for "that 80's smapler sound" and do it
quite well. The E1 with the genmod is great if I were
you I would buy it.

Kevin (and Harald too!),

Thanks for the input - I'm going for it! It's a one owner machine, all
docs, and everything, so it really is a good find. As much as I loved
my IIx, it too went to a good home, and frankly, the cost of repairs
and utter lack of spares scared me into selling it!

The fact that you don't regret selling yours and are a happy E1 owner
speaks volumes.

Thanks again for the input - I'm working on a time to pick it up now
(it's a few hours drive, but worth saving potential shipping damage),
hopefully that will be in the next few weeks.

Cheers!

Daniel
