Hi David,

I find the picture a bit odd, the battery is supposed to be on the round
part which is at the bottom of your picture. The part that looks very
corroded is the crystal. It would seem to me that the crystal is covered
in oxide. **If it worked before like this*** , maybe just clean it up a
bit and remove all the conductive powder that comes / came off of it ?

Still it is odd that it worked before.

Harald

Re: restoring a Series IIx

Hi Harald,

I learned that the card did, indeed, not work in its current state.
Someone else already removed all the parts that where destroyed by the battery acid.

The CMI was operating correctly before the battery accident happened. So I'm hoping that
by repairing/rebuilding the CPU Control card the unit will work again.

Do all CPU cards have a cable soldered on top of it? I saw the same cable on David Morley's
CPU card. Which makes me think that it's a factory mod.

Best Regards,
David

Re: [Fairlight-CMI] Re: restoring a Series IIx

2007-11-29 by Glenn

Hey David,
Fwiw, the CPU card on my series III has the rework wire, the CPU card on my IIX does not. I don't know if that's consequential or not. Might be worth checking out? are the IIX and III CPU cards interchangeable?
Also, the ROMs on the series III card are marked with different numbers and so are presumable different files??
On the subject of ROMS, i have a burner and probably some spare blank eproms and would be more than happy to help a fellow fairlight owner out and send them off to you at no charge (if you'll provide me with an address and contact number (for customs). The only catch is, i have to find and set up the burner again. That's it though. Meaning if it could be allright if it took me a week or two to get together the minute i find that thing (i've just moved is the thing) I'll burn you a set and send them to you to help?
But please find out if you can if that's a III or IIx CPU card or if that matters. Is there a date on the card anywhere? if you can use the III card (if that's what it is) or if you think you'll have a better chance of swapping it for what you need, I can copy the roms from my III's cpu card and see if those work??? with the same time constraint
Just let me know?
thanks,
Glenn J.

Re: [Fairlight-CMI] Re: restoring a Series IIx

2007-12-02 by Harald Feldmann

Hi David,

I checked and some cards have it, some don't. It is possible that the
ones originating from IIxes have the mod. I have cards coming from III
and IIx.

I also checked the manuals briefly for a mention of a mod, but could
not find it in the limited time I have right now.

Best regards,
Harald
