Eprom question for Series IIx CPU card

Eprom question for Series IIx CPU card

2008-02-21 by dvdborn

I've almost finished restoring a Fairlight CPU Card for the Series IIx. The only thing that still
needs to happen is burning the EPROMS.

I've got an EPROM burner but it doesn't support 2716 or 2516 type EPROMS, only 27C16.

The service manual says that a 2716 or 2516 eprom needs to be used.
Can anyone tell me if it's also possible to use the 27C16 as a replacement?

Best,
David

Hi David,

In general you should be able to replace a 2716 with a 27C16. It does depend
somewhat on the circuits and bus configuration as the logic thresholds,
access time and fanout might be a little different in the CMOS EPROM. It is
likely the CMOS part will draw less current that the NMOS part does.

Hello David,

MMe in my Q133 I use of the 2716 (because I have some much in
advance)...

Normally both type of memory 2716 and 27C16 are compatible pin has
pin...

see :

I think that's right too, different voltage for
burning and more sensitive to static (maybe get same
access time range is all?) but functionally the same
once burned.

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies regarding the EPROMs.
The 27C16's are burned and I'm going to try out the restored CPU Card tomorrow.
