Re: [Fairlight-CMI] Re: More detailed error description

Great news!!! For the future, if this problem comes back, worth checking in all Fairlight backplanes, is that the physical plastic keys which engage the slots in the cards need to be present.
They are simply small bits of plastic, or circuit board material, non-conductive, that are glued in place. They frequently fall out into the bottom of the case or into the carpet to be hoovered up. They can be replaced, although it's important not to get glue on the adjacent contacts. Best if they're a tight fit into the blue slot, but a loose fit into the card edge slot.
Almost every global (more than a single card) CMI problem, even blown big fuses, and refusal to boot, or get correct voltage LEDs, or of course, missing all 8 channel cards, that I've seen has come back to these little keys. Just happened to another very experienced CMI owner about 1.5 months ago.
Having said that, it's possible to 'get lucky' and push the card in just right by chance, which just makes the electronics seem 'unreliable', and only works until the card might creep down or be removed once again. All this from a tiny physical problem in a single slot.

that master card: I had all 8 voice cards removed once more + the two
cards left of them, cleaned the contacts and put them in and out
three times each, and now the machine is running perfectly again !
The only problem now is that when I connect the front panel (behind
the door), it freezes sometimes ! But I guess I can live without the
fancy lights on the door switched on, as long as the rest is working
as it should.
Cheers and Thanks !
