Mic & Line inputs don't work, ADC direct does work

Mic & Line inputs don't work, ADC direct does work

2013-03-13 by dvdborn

I wasn't expecting to launch a new call for help so soon on the forum. But unfortunately here goes...

I use my IIx a lot for sampling and have always used the line input to do so.

Now, the line input as well as the mic input don't work anymore. Page 8 shows no incoming signal.

The ADC direct input still does work and I can sample using that input in combination with a DI-box.
So the problem doesn't appear to be with the CMI02 card.

I've checked the XLR connectors and the cables that go to the CMI-04 board. These connections are still OK. I've also checked the 10-way ribbon cable that goes to the CMI02 card and it's also OK.

I'm having the exact same problem with a second IIx (the one that I was able to bring back to life a few days ago).

My first guess is a problem on the CMI-04 board. But before I start debugging that board I'd like to hear if anyone else has ever encountered this problem and knows what the origin of it might be.

Best,
David

Ask Stephan Schällman, he had the same problem earlier. I don´t think he resolved it.

Hi All. If ADC direct works, problem MUST be on CMI-04 on rear panel. Save time and effort by buying my BRAND SPANKING NEW rear panel! It's at: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/230943778188?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649#ht_500wt_1358

I had the analog XLR sample inputs stop working in my SIII and after checking the board, pushed down on the socketed IC's and that resolved it. Its worked perfectly ever since.

Not sure if it helps but it might be worth a try.

Regards, Marty

Peter -
How hard would it be to fit the General Interface Unit to your rear panel? (I already have the a GIU on my IIx.)

Also, would there be a "Core Return" if the person that bought your rear panel and exchanged their old rear panel to you?

I'll start by replacing IC9 (LM301). I've ordered a few of them, there are 3 in the input circuits, and go from there.

I'll keep the forum posted. I'm under the impression that more users out there are suffering from the same problem.

Best,
David

You've found the IIx service manual, I trust?

:-D

Of course :-)

I'd be impossible to maintain a IIx and not have the service manual.

Cheers,
David
