Best supplier of double-sided blanks in US?

Best supplier of double-sided blanks in US?

2009-02-25 by awakephd

I am sure this question has been asked a million times, but I don't
seem to be succeeding in searching for it. The only result I found was
for abcfab on ebay -- but he is "closed" until summer. :( So where's a
good place to find inexpensive but decent quality (for TT process) blanks?

TIA,

Andy

This may not be the cheapest place but Mouser www.mouser.com carries
the M G Chemical boards. Myself I use the 600 Series pos. resist but
they have the plain copper too.

Andy,
To solve the double sided and alignment problems at the same time, use
this stuff: 5.5" x 6" Scissor Cut SS Copper Clad 0.016" thick.
http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G15697
(I am not affiliated)
It is thin enough to see through. Do each side on a separate and than
epoxy them together for well aligned double sided.

Hmmm, that offers an interesting approach. I had seen this but
dismissed it as too thin for my needs; maybe I need to re-evaluate ...

This stuff is awesome, recommend it as well. I got some huge sheets
from American Science and Surplus, but I think they've run out now.

You can cut the stuff with scissors even while the copper is still on
it. (And, of course, after etching as well). Optical alignment after
etching does work quite well. A light table makes the process more
convenient.

I put tape one sheet with a flap hanging loose, align the second
sheet, and then fix the second sheet in place with the loose flap of
tape. I then drill. It is no problem to separate the boards again
after you've done the drilling.

Although I have not quite attempted the solder paste reflow procedure
yet, it has occurred to me that one could reflow SMD components on
both sides while the sides are separated and then put the sides back
together for the through-hole components.

Best of luck,
Royce
