Solder paste storage: is there such as thing as too cold?

Solder paste storage: is there such as thing as too cold?

2009-08-16 by Piers Goodhew

Hi, just took delivery of my first syringe of solder paste to noodle
with. As it's pretty likely that I'll be having a lot left after I
noodle, I'm just wondering whether I should freeze it, or whether that
might wreck it?

As far as I know freezing is not recommended, it may separate.
Refrigeration is advised.

Thanks, Stefan.

Well, I have now used it and, while I shouldn't be surprised, it is
amazing! 0603 LEDs really are easy.

Think I wont be drilling many .8mm holes any more ... I'm an SMD
zealot now.

Uploaded some pix ... can't say I'm a huge fan of that UI, but they're
there awaiting approval anyway

It's made by http://www.aimsolder.com.au

I bought it at Jaycar, http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=NS3038&keywords=solder+paste&form=KEYWORD
  - pretty much my only choice of walk-in-and-buy-it supplier.

Given that we're high wage anglophones, it's probably not sold widely
around the world

It worked well - it appeared to melt quickly to a sort of grey blob
(which did conduct electricity, but was not very strong). After much
more time, it suddenly went white-then-silver and the surface tension
did its thing.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
