thanks for the tips....I just did a clean sweep of everything -- I'm not sure that will solve everything. Now Safari is crashing, ical is crashing ---who knows? It still doesn't make sense: when I used FW to connect to external HD, it was a big problem; now that I have it connected by USB, still things are crashing --- I just don't know where to go with this.
