Hey, Doug,

Pages 643-44 and 650-51 of the Manual do describe the actions
accurately -- but beyond the words, it just take a certain finesse.

It may help to start by making the tempo track as tall as you can, and
zoom in to just a couple of measures. This doesn't change the action
at all, but it MAY help you see the results more accurately.

Rather than directly left/right or up/down, try dragging diagonally.
You should see the line jump away from the point.

This doesn't really add much concretely beyond the manual. Probably
it's more a matter of just keeping on playing with it. Eventually
you'll get it right -- then, once you stop shouting, "YEAH! YEAH!
WHOOHOO!" go back to it and do it again and again, play with how far
to take it, watch the curve shape "flip," etc. Get it into "muscle
memory."

Even once you get it, it can be a little erratic, but it'll happen.

Good luck,
chuck
