I've been through that section of the manual a FEW times, and cannot seem to draw a gradual tempo curve in Logic 8. I am starting at a tempo of 120 BPM and want to gradual go to 60 BPM to end a song. Everytime I try to draw curve between two tempi, I just end up sliding the first tempo node to the right? I am using the pencil tool, but even tried the automation tools, as well as the marquis tool...same effect. Can anyone help? Thanks Doug

It may help to start by making the tempo track as tall as you can, and zoom in to just a couple of measures. This doesn't change the action at all, but it MAY help you see the results more accurately. Rather than directly left/right or up/down, try dragging diagonally. You should see the line jump away from the point. This doesn't really add much concretely beyond the manual. Probably it's more a matter of just keeping on playing with it. Eventually you'll get it right -- then, once you stop shouting, "YEAH! YEAH! WHOOHOO!" go back to it and do it again and again, play with how far to take it, watch the curve shape "flip," etc. Get it into "muscle memory." Even once you get it, it can be a little erratic, but it'll happen. Good luck, chuck

I'm not sure exactly how you're doing it, but it worked for me with the arrow. You should have 3 (nodes) dots - the initial 120 node, the final 60 node and the blue curve node. You used the pencil to create a 60bpm node at the end. When you hover over the node, you get the up/down arrow cursor. When you hover over the line you get a hand, and when you hover over the Tempo Curve Node, you get an index finger pointer. If the curve node dot is right above/at the 6bpm point, then drag the blue dot towards the middle of the song to get and modify the gradual transition. I don't think I'm making sense right now, but if I am, give it a shot. Greg and Chuck... Thanks for the replies. I went back to the manual and strangely enough, all I had to do was open up the Tempo Operations window and everything was already set up for me to adjust...curve type and all...it was a breeze using the TO window, instead of trying to do it without. Congrats! When I learned that tool, I just had to put some tempo changes in the next three or four projects I did, just to hear it happen. Oh, yeah, the joy of getting a ritard juuuuust right... But now I'm mighty confused: Where else WERE you trying to do this? I wasn't aware of anyplace besides the TO track that might even offer the possibility. chuck

I am spacing out here - can I "lock" individual tracks to prevent changes to them?

Of course. However, you have to configure the arrange page to show
lock/unlock status. I used to lock tracks at times, but later when I wanted to do
something, I had to reconfigure that column so it got to be a hassle not to mention
Logic's warning messages about this. There may be a key command too - open the
kc window and type "lock" into the search window.

You can also hide tracks which accomplishes some of the same results.

Cool Chuck... I wasn't trying to do it anywhere else but the Temp track under Global tracks. My difficulty was trying to draw the curve without first opening the Tempo operations window. It wasn't until I went back to the manual that I opened it and voila! --- In Logic_Cafe@yahoogroups.com, "cb50dc" <cb50dc@...> wrote: > > --- In Logic_Cafe@yahoogroups.com, "dancensoul" <dancensoul@> wrote: > > > > Greg and Chuck... > > Thanks for the replies. John, Did you mean to sent this to the chat room? If not, I'm not sure what you mean. But yes, you can lock individual tracks to prevent changes to each one. Next to the button to freeze or to record there is a button to "lock" each one. Tim

I know this is basic but how do you hide tracks?

Look at the configuration for arrange page items. you can check or uncheck
lock, hide, etc to show or not to show.
