Does anyone know of any studios in the Los Angeles area that use Logic? I am doing some recording at home on my Mac, but would like to get some more expert help when I am ready to mix and master the project. Thanks Dennis

I think Multi Media Music in Toluca Lake MIGHT be Logic-based: Multi Media Music (818) 762-6275 4621 Cahuenga Blvd Toluca Lake, CA 91602 Contact: Mark Vincent On 9/26/08 5:46 PM, "dcgwell" <dennisgu@...> wrote: > Does anyone know of any studios in the Los Angeles area that use Logic? > > I am doing some recording at home on my Mac, but would like to get > some more expert help when I am ready to mix and master the project. > > Thanks > > Dennis > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Clarification: do you mean just mixing and mastering help or mixing and mastering on Logic only? I do mixes but when I want extra or special quality I send my projects to: Rainman Productions http://www.rainmanproductions.com/ 1818-248-4864 david@... He does only mixes, is cheap and has done mixes and recordings with lots of name artists. He has great pre-amps and tons of gear. I usually convert everything to wave files to transfer to his studio.

What does he use the preamps for if he is mixing? Is he mixing outboard?

What does he use them for? For a better sound for the final mix, ie, both sides go through a Neve or SSL or something and it makes it sound great---AND he has a million tricks that he does. On my website there is a song called Hey You under Hip Hop and RnB. He mixed it. He mixes both outboard and in his own studio. He does mixes in several studios and the prices go up and down. Some studios he works in have SSL, Neve and Harrison...if you contact him directly, he can give you more info. t On Sep 27, 2008, at 9:04 AM, GAmoore@... wrote: > What does he use the preamps for if he is mixing? Its not a big deal but just curious. So he sends the stereo buss out through
the preamps and reconverts back to digital? Or the individual 16 or more
tracks out to a board then? Or does he send them out a stereo pair at time to run
through the preamps? A Neve 1037 dpa costs about $3000 for a stereo pair so
fairly few people have 8 or 16 of those except big studios.

I'm not sure; you can ask him at the email addresses I sent you, or look at some of the links on his website. I don't think he owns any 1073s but a lot of the studios he works in have them and if not, they're cheap to rent here in LA --$40-$80/day depending upon the deal. I'll send you an equipment list and you can decide whether to send it to the room or not.

Thanks. I was just curious about how he works. Its possible to take digital
things from Logic and convert to analog and run them through expensive preamps
then record them back to digital in Logic. Its just a lot of hassle. So I was
curious about what he is doing. His equipment that you sent separately seems
to mainly be UA plugin stuff.

That equipment list is from his personal studio, a lot of plug ins. Although most people would say you can't hear the difference, he agrees that you do hear a difference. Although it is a lot of trouble to use external preamps, etc,, if there is a lot of money riding on it ---like a nice label deal ---it's always worth it.
