matrix bug from 7.2 still in Logic 8

matrix bug from 7.2 still in Logic 8

2007-10-22 by GAmoore@aol.com

I am dismayed to find the matrix bug has not been fixed in Logic 8. I'll
delete a note or make some simple change in a matrix (now known as piano scroll)
window, then every single note appears to disappear - leaving a blank matrix.
If you go back to the arrange window and open the sequence again, you can see
all the notes are there correctly, but this becomes a headache with every
little change. Anyone else experience this?

Not once that I can remember in the 7 or so years Ive been using it.
Graphics card issue maybe??

This happened on my G5(2x1.8) with LP7.2 with its graphics cards, and now on
my new MacPro(4x2.6) with LS8 with its own (different) graphics card. The
matrix is drawn fine, and you can scroll left and right and everything is fine -
except all the notes appear to be missing. It happened to me many dozens of
times yesterday.

By the way, I am not overly impressed with the MacPro. The screensets seem to
be a little faster changing, but in many ways I don't notice much change at
all.

Hi GA
I cannot replicate this problem on this end.
MacBook Pro 17", 2.33GHz Duo, 2GB RAM
LS8, RME Fireface 800.
Are you running a particular video card?
I'll try it on the G5's and the MacPro's to triple confirm

got that bug too, from 7.0 on. annoying, to say the least.

also annoying (and maybe related) is that clicking at the background of a piano roll I'm
trying to edit, brings up ALL midi notes in ALL sequences at that position. while that might
come in handy, when comparing measures etc. it certainly is VERY annoying when editing
drumloops and suddenly all the synth notes are all over the place.

Does anybody know how to turn it off, to go back to pre-7.0 behaviour?

Hate to say it but there is something really wrong with your system or
theres some really wierd option you enabled that is NOT on by default.
This behavior is not normal at all and has never happened over here..
The Piano Roll/Matrix works just as it should over here and always has.
If I have one sequence open and click in the background that one
sequence stays on screen and nothing else shows up.

mmm, weird, I thought everybody was experiencing this bug.
because I can edit the all the notes in the sequence and in all other sequences.
so ... the bug works :-S
ahem
there's lots more bugs in my system (7.2 on 10.4.8 on G4 1.4DP)
mostly small ones

It's a freshly installed logic. and I have had it before running 10.3 etc..
weird!

Yeah I have experienced many times over the past few months - although not
always.

I think that has always been there. There was an option (up through 7.2 at
least) for you to show ALL midi sequences or just the SELECTED ones when you
click in the background. For this reason, I made two separate screensets so I
could use both methods (because there was no keycommand to change that option) -
at the same time I also had a different setting for using the sequence colors
for the midi matrix notes (rather than the velocity colors).

Another one - I was unable to change the color of the markers. I opened the
manual and saw to click the "font" button, I chose a new color - but then
nothing happens. I tried a dozen times and nothing.

Sometimes keycommands stop working or other bizarre behaviour - but then they
might work the next day. Keep in mind that I have a separate cleanly
installed harddisk dedicated to the OS and Logic - no games, no Microsoft products, no
graphics products - nothing but logic, and plug ins. I also run terminal
sudos, Diskwarrior, etc. I don't know what else I can possibly do - and suspect
that its just bugs.

GA,
Try this for the Marker Colour.
Create your marker like you normally do,
unfold the Global Tracks Triangle, click on your marker 'region' to
select it,
Under the View tab select your colour pallette (Option+C)
change colours there, see if they stick.
Good Luck

I had no problem setting the marker color just a few minutes ago.
I'm on Logic Pro 7.2.3. You need to Shift-Click on the color to set
it and it should work. That's how it's always been as far as I can
remember.

Yeah I have done it for years in logic pre-8. I justs can't do it in LS8. I
did try command clicking, shift clicking, etc.

___________

It is a feature - and a very useful one - allows you to move quickly
between MIDI clips - also, when you are working with short clips in a
large piece, it can be hard to keep track of where you are if you
want to go back a bit in time from where you are working - hard to do
if you are just working within one clip.

As far as I know, the feature has always been there - at least from
version 3. It wasn't in Notator (but here we talk of ancient history).

If you double-click in blank space in the Matrix Edit you bring up
all MIDI events. By double-clicking on a note, you move to just that
clip. So, if you single click on a note and it is, say, a bass note
and you are after drums, just keep poking around. It isn't hard to
tell them apart - the drums are usually contained to a small number
of notes quite close together (kick, snare, hihats).
