Hi Logic fellows, I need some advice about audio interface.. What's the best audio interface I can get for around £200? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you Val

It depends on what you mean by best. I would think knowing the features you want would narrow the field considerably. How many inputs and preamps do you need? Do you need ADAT in or out? Do you want USB or Firewire, and do you need bus power? Do you need rackmount or table top? Once you figure that stuff out, there will probably be only a handful to choose from. Thanks Gregory, Sorry I wrote in a harry and didn't mention the details.. I have a home studio and record instruments/vocals one at a time. I came across Alesis io-14 ( http://www.alesis.com/io14 ) wich has 4 High Definition Mic/Line Preamplifiers inputs, 8 channels of ADAT input, 16 Channels of MIDI I/O, also it's Firewire. I'm satisfied with it's features and found it for £139.00 It just has all I need for my home studio. I wonder if there's a better deal.. Also if anyone of you used the Alesis io series would be great to know your reviews about it. Thank you On 24 Aug 2008, at 17:56, Gregory Anderson wrote: > It depends on what you mean by best. I would stay away from Alesis. No one offers more features for less money, but every piece of Alesis hardware I have bought has had big problems that required either returning it or trashing it. Including the io/14. I like the designs, but the electronics inside must be really cheap. The problem is, aside from Alesis, almost no one makes interfaces with 4 pre-amps. You usually get 2 mic inputs, like on the Firebox or the FA-66, which are at your price point, or you skip up to 8 mic inputs, like on the FP-10, which is considerably more. I have several lower-end interfaces (FP-10, EZBus, M-Audio Duo, Inspire) but my favorite is an old MOTU 828 MK1 that I got off ebay for $200. Only 2 mic inputs though. Good luck. Thank you Gregory once again, After what you've said I'm seriously thinking of spending money for MOTU.. Actually I hear it from everywhere (did lots of research on internet) that MOTU is the best option for Mac/Logic/Pro Tools set up. I know it will cost much more, but I guess it's worth spending money for it.. I'm really attracted by MOTU UltraLite-mk3. i tried m-audio and native instruments interfaces, and had driver problems.
thats why i went to a dedicated a/d converter with optical output so it goes
straight into the mac with no drivers at all! Logic needs to have the audio
preferences bumped each session to make it find the connection, but once this
annoyance is overcome, it works fine.

Motu has a good reputation, and I'm sure they will work fine for you. You mentioned M-Audio in another message, but I would stay away from it. M-Audio works great in combination with ProTools, but the drivers have some issues in combination with Logic. You might also have a look at the Tascam products. I have been very satisfied with the FW-1884 which is a combination of 8 mike/line inputs, various midi and adat io and a complete control surface with motorized faders. There is also the smaller FW-1082 with 4 mike inputs. Kind regards, Ben

Do you have any specifics? I'm using a Delta 66 with both ProTools MP and Logic, and am wondering what sorts of things I should be on the lookout for. TIA. - PH

What do you need the audio interface to do? A) USB or Firewire? B) How many inputs/outputs? C) Do you need MIDI I/O? D) Any other features peculiar to the way you wish to get program material into Logic? The other problem is relatively high latency. And finally, their drivers can blow up in your face whenever Apple brings out a new OS update. It is usually best to wait until you get the go-ahead from Digidesign to upgrade your OS (like with Pro Tools). However, YMMV. Google found this for example: <http://createdigitalmusic.com/2008/05/15/digidesign-and-m-audio-drivers-fail-to-keep-pace-with-vista-leopard-and-xp-sp3/ > Kind regards, Ben

I had the Delta 66 modded to work with my G5, and it¹s been rock steady for a good long time, now, so I was curious to hear what kinds of problems people have been observing. No plans to upgrade to Leopard any time soon, so I think I should be OK. - PH [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I am using a Behringer UCA202 USB interface, and it sux! High latency, and after using it for a while, starts to crackle and crash out. Piece of crrrrap! I am using M-Audio's Firewire solo, and there is zero latency. I've been using it on the MAC & PC. Chaz --- On Mon, 8/25/08, Paul Heitsch <Paul@pushplayaudio.com> wrote:
