no audible audio in sample editor

no audible audio in sample editor

2011-01-19 by truth_comes_easily

Hi all,

Got a tough one, here. Can't hear any audio when working in the sample editor window. All volume controls are up, routing is simply stereo out, and everything else in Logic seems to be working fine. This has never worked for me using Logic 9.1.3 and my iMac (2.93 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB). Long-time Logic user, but this has me baffled. I might be missing something obvious.

TIA for any help -- much appreciated.

I'm not using 9, but in earlier versions, the audio playback in the
various audio bin and sample edit windows always played back on a
specific track -- I think Audio 1. If you have that muted or routed
interestingly, then it might not play back. I think you can also
specify somewhere which track it uses, so you might want to dig around
for that and make sure it's set to a track that's available and routed
properly.

Not at home, so can't check if this is related, but you don't have a
hidden track solo-ed by any chance? If the solo/mute lights are dimmed but
blinking in the mixer window, this sometimes causes audio to disappear. I
don't have a solution though, whenever it happens to me I end up trying
random things until I free it up.

That's probably a red herring though

Re: [Logic_Cafe] no audible audio in sample editor: SOLVED, and thanks

Folks, thanks for your input. In order to hear audio when working in the sample editor, you must have a "Prelisten" audio object set up in the Environment. It _may_ have to be set to ch. 256, though I'm definitely not certain about that. In any event, that will allow you to monitor audio in that window.
I was clued into this by the "Prelisten" pop-label when I clicked the Prelisten button. Didn't even know it was called Prelisten. Anyhow, creating that object solved the problem. Thanks much for your quick replies -- they got me thinking.
Regards.

Hit the X key on your keyboard to open your mixer, then look to see if any channels are muted. I hope this fixes your problem.

Sincere Peace,
