Have any of you seen this baby ... www.mackie.com It's on the front page. Looks like it'll be released at the end of the year. Looks GREAT for controlling plug-ins and comes relatively preconfigured for Logic... ...

Yes I was looking at that just last night.. If i'm right It's an addon for the Logic/Mackie control? Rather than a standalone?

It can be used as a standalone unit. Of course they would LOVE you to buy it along with Logic control...I do use Logic Control, and there's just NO WAY I could go back! I just wish that they'd abandon MIDI for the connections and use USB or even Firewire...

If you are talking about the C4, it says that it is available now on this page: http://www.mackie.com/products/digital_recording/index.html I also saw mention of a firmware update, so it must have been out for awhile. Then no one has one in stock... I don't think it has had a major release yet...perhaps the firmware update was for the betas... I guess you might have trouble shifting banks without the main unit though. Steve

I bought a remote control deal for my old Tascam 80-8 that some guy from CA had invented. It was basic but did the trick. You actually stuck little pieces of black tape, at specified intervals on the supply reel and there was a light sensitive unit that you taped to the recorder. As the tape reel turned, it counted the black stripes on the reel and displayed the number on the digital remote. It had about 10 ft of that flat 20 wire computer cable that ran to the remote so you could get away from the recorder to sing or play. You could set it up to do auto punch in's and it was amazingly accurate. I did some punch in's that I would never have attempted manually. I paid about $200. with 1980's $$$ and was glad to have it. We've come a long way baby! Charlie

Hey All! I am getting ready to order (I think) the 88Pro. All I care about is the hammer action keyboard. Can any piano players out there comment on the feel of this keyboard?? Dave Shirk

Sorry, I haven't and I'd love to know more - I use a Kawai MP9500 Piano and it's TDB :-) peter

It's OK for $499. You get what you pay for. It doesn't feel "real", but it isn't "cheap" feeling either. It has somewhat of a "sticky" touch, "plasticky"...I like the controller capability, that makes it all worthwhile; however, I would choose something else for "touch" alone...

Nothing about the MAudio but regarding MIDI keyboards .... I have a Kurzweil keyboard, a Roland keyboard (older one), and I bought a Novation Remote 25. I find the Kurzweil has the most senstivity, but I like the Roland's pitch bend, and I like the Novation's pitch bend even more - unfortunately, the Novation would miss notes sometimes if I played a fast passage, and also the pitch bend didn't work on some softsynths. So I end up using the Kurzweil usually.

I've got one and I like it a lot. It's not like playing a piano keyboard but it's much better than a synth keyboard for me (I've got a pretty heavy playing style). At the price I'd say it's good value. As others have said it's the controllers that I want. I wish they made a smaller one with the same number of controllers for live work. G

The M Audio struck me as a little plastick-y (as previously mentioned) and I've been doing some research on controllers and a few people are having mechanical problems with these units. (broken keys was mentioned) they also said the support was good though. I was comparing it to a Roland A-80 that fell in my lap. I fell in love with the feel of the Roland while trying out a lot of other options on the market. It has a very substantial although, heavy action. So in that light, the M88 did not really hold up. I'm only talking about the touch of the instrument. In the end, none of this really matters, you've got to put your hands on 'em to see for yourself. Cheers Michael Telle PS, Hi everyone. I've just joined. I'll try to contribute as possible.

I live in a rural coastal area - and have to drive 3 hours to get somewhere I can try these things out! But it sounds like it is not for me. I am looking for as close to a Good Piano Keyboard feel as I can find. All I need out of it is to be used as a keyboard only - nothing else - but I do need USB output! There is probably no such thing out there! But thanks for the input! Dave Shirk

I know pro piano players who like the feel and sound of the Yamaha digital pianos. I know you don't want the sounds. I'm not sure if Yamaha make controllers. Google? Andris

There is probably no such thing out there! The Fatar weighted action controllers are very good, in my opinion. About as good as you might expect from any mechanism that isn't actually throwing hammers at strings and lifting dampers. The 88-key Studio Logic is around $500 USD, which is more than the MAudio usually goes for. I haven't been able to try the MAudio yet, but have heard from others that it's action is more synthy (light, springy) than other fully weighted models, like the Fatar. The Fatar does NOT offer USB - you'll need at least a 1-in 1-out interface to connect it to your computer - and it has very limited control options - nothing compared to the MAudio. But purely from a tactile point of view, I'd go with the Fatar. - PH

I do not care about any control features - just a "piano feel" 88 keys! And a MIDI to USB convertor is not a problem - I have several laying around! Happy Holidays! Hmm, Bruce Richardson at Northern Sounds is trying to launch a class action suit against Fatar for the StudioLogic controller. I can't quite remember the model number though. I think it's the SSL 880 or something like that.

Talking about lawsuits, Apple (Beatles) is already going to court (and will almost assuredly win) against Apple (Mac) over the iPod and iTunes store. (I'm not sure if it includes both). I would not be surprised if Apple (Beatles) would make a similar move on Logic as it is certainly targeted toward the music industry and I believe that the only reason Apple (Mac) can now use that name is because of an agreement reached with the Beatles that they would never get into that market under the Apple name. Could be interesting... Kamm
