Dual Sound Card

Dual Sound Card

2005-02-07 by Jon Pyre

Any systems out there running dual sound cards w/ win Logic 5.1?
I'm considering new audio routing techniques and was wondering if I
could avoid some pitfalls. AMD3000, audiophile 2496, wave in and
out, 512Mb RAM, K6 mainboard with onboard 5.1 surround.

Hello :
I used to have and Aark20(asio) and an AW8(aw8)on a PIII 500 with
256mb and it worked with Logic 4.8. The problem is when you want to
go back to a single card...
I don´t like consumer audio cards because you´ll have lots of delay
between cards , but you can try...

good luck

Great! I've been digging around net forums a little today and
though it seems very unlikely that people get two soumd cards
running they don't do it often and it's a tricky operation when they
do. I don't know what kind of problems you experianced trying to go
back to one, but I'd like to hear about it. I think it's a matter
of windows wanting to use one or the other sound card as default for
certain programs, but there also seems to be an accessing hardware
problem as in any given program won't access or route to different
hardware out. I have, however had sucess midichaining stand alone
software to host secuencers and routing audio out through both
simultaneously. Also, I've been reading that M Audio gear can
handle multiple cards of the same brand.

I was not thrilled with the M-Audio drivers and I am selling my Audiophile 2496 PCI board ($85).

I have a friend with an audiofile soundcard and it's delay feels like
a minute when running a controller through it

It sounded fine, and worked normally usually. however often when logic woudl crash or the system crash when running logic, then it would say "your previously used audio driver is no longer available" - even after a reboot. I went through this process of repairing permissions and such, then it would come back. A couple of times I got really loud static noise suddenly. I don't know if this is a core audio problem or an M-audio driver problem. I would not be surprised at all if it were Apple's core audio system, but whatever the cause I am trying root out all possible sources of problems. I don't have the time and resources to test various systems to see which thing is causing what problem. I just want a simple working system.
