how much of an advantage ... a general question regards the R2400

2005-10-13 by Godfrey DiGiorgi

I just purchased an Epson R2400 to replace the 1270, which has been
dedicated to B&W printing with MIS UT2 inks and QuadToneRIP for a
couple of years. Since I needed to do an operating system overhaul
anyway, I took the opportunity to reinstall everything from scratch
which means I now have *only* the Epson R2400 software and profiles
installed. I'm standardizing on Epson Heavyweight Matte and Enhanced
Matte for general printing with this printer (likely one higher-grade
paper as well: perhaps one of the Hahnemuehle or Moab papers, or
Epson Velvet Fine Art), and I print a lot of B&W work.

What I'm interested to know from others who have gone to this
printer: How much of an advantage have you seen from use of QTR over
the Epson driver for B&W printing? So far, my tests on the Epson
Enhanced Matte paper have proven to show very good quality. I'm just
unsure as to how much additional benefit would be had from going to
QTR at this point ... It is a godsend for getting decent B&W out of
the 1270.
