By the way, I decided to try the jpg one more time... thought maybe an overnight downtime would let any mischief dissipate. This morning not only were my margins still very narrow, but today I let the jpg photo proceed more in the printer - and only a portion of the image showed, so it must have been printing the full original size.
What's odd is that about a week ago my prints were properly sized, and the margins were as I set them. I'd forgotten about tiff files... I do remember now that I think about it is that earlier versions of QTR would accept only tiffs but I thought newer versions had been fixed to accept jpgs. I thought the problem was that I was using a small but very useful utility called Fastone and this program had some quirks. I started to resize in Photoshop and this worked fine until just recently.
I take my photos in jpg... the only other option is RAW. So changing to tiff slows down my work flow - but I'll keep experimenting, no worries! I don't want to sound critical, all in all, QTR is a wonderful program, thank you for making it available to the print community.
