QTR vs Qimage

QTR vs Qimage

2005-10-05 by cremaandrea

Need to understand a few thing ref the QTR RIP

I am currently using an Epson R2400 with Qimage, I take it that my B&W
prints are going to improve with the RIP !

Apologies if some of these questions are dumb !

1) Can the RIP be used in conjunction with Qimage ? (suspect not)

2) I see that the RIP offers standard paper sizes, can I use these
sizes to print borderless images ? (assume that the whole purpose of
the RIP is that it does not use the Epson driver, hence there is not
the option to tick, borderless ?)

3) Qimage uses very advanced algorithms for interpolating the image to
different sizes, will this be lost when using a RIP what algorithm is
used by the RIP? standard bicubic ?

Use Qimage to print to file as a TIFF image. Then print it with QTR. QTR does
not print borderless.

Thanks Stephen,

So does anyone know whether there will be any update to have a
borderless function added in QTR ?

If I am using Qimage to output a file to TIFF, what dimensions do I
use, say for example a 6x4 if it is not borderless ?

In answer to your question about what dimensions to use, I have Qimage
output borderless TIFF files. Otherwise, the file will include the
paper margins and this may cause QTR to say it's too big.

But getting Qimage to do this is a two step process and not intuitive.
At least it wasn't for me. Here's how I do it.

1)Set up Qimage with any paper combination.
2)Select File/Print_To/File
a)Enter the Width and Height of the final print
b)I enter "720" for PPI (because in an email years ago, Mike

Re: QTR vs Qimage

Sorry, my fingers hit the wrong button and the message was posted long
before I intended.

To recap,
Qimage can be configured to output borderless TIFF files for use in
QTR. Here's how I do it. There may be a more efficient way, but after
a lot of experimentation, I've found that this works.

1)Start Qimage with whatever paper
2)Select File/Print_To/File
a)Enter Width and Height of the borderless print
    b)I use 720 PPI
c)select Format Files For:Printer and click OK
3)Select "Custom" under the print size area
a)Under "Sizing Method" select "Enter Specific Size"
b)Enter the Width and Height of the borderless print but
      do NOT press "Enter"
c)Instead, after entering W and H, select "Borderless" under
"Sizing Method" and click OK to close the dialogue

If everything worked properly you should see what looks like a
borderless page in the preview area and both the "Default Size" value
(located at top left) and the "Page" value (located just above
preview) should indicate the desired borderless print size.

To change to a different size, repeat steps 2 and 3 above.

And finally, turn OFF "Prtr ICC" in the "Print Processing" area to
prevent double profiling.

This will give you all the upsizing advantages of Qimage plus the
printing advantages of QTR.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
