Viewing curves on Windows and Mac

Viewing curves on Windows and Mac

I'm a Windows 10 user of QTR with Piezography Pro inks.

I know that you can graph a curve and see the component inks in QTRGui by right-clicking the curve in the "Curve Setup" box and select "Show curve graph". However I've never been happy with the quality or usability of the resulting graph, and lately I've noticed that it is buggy anyway - sometimes a channel doesn't graph properly, the color legend for the inks is incorrect for the printer being used, etc. (I'm pretty sure the bugs come from the fact that QTRQui was not built to accommodate 10-ink printers, even though printing works just fine. So I don't think it is a Windows OS issue specifically.)

From what I've seen in various docs regarding QTR on the Mac, it appears there is a standalone "Curve Viewer" application. And from the screen shots, it appears to have a much higher quality and various interactive features as well, (ability to turn off selected inks, etc.). This is more what I'm after, but I'd like to have that on the Windows platform. And to be honest, having it standalone would be a bonus as well.

So has anyone attempted to build a Windows version of Curve Viewer, or something similar? I know some (most?) of you will just advise "get a Mac", but I'm sure there is no technical barrier that would prevent having a decent Windows curve viewer.

I've created some spreadsheets for this purpose, set up so that I can just copy and paste in .quad file and see the graph. I set it up for curve comparison so in fact I can paste in two curves, and plot them separately and against each other.

The problem with QTR on Windows is that the chap who wrote QTRGui as a graphical front end for command line QTR-on-Windows has long since vanished, and Roy has no way of coding for Windows last we heard.

Yes, I guess for now I'll do the same and setup something in Excel... should be easy to do given how the data is structured in the quad file. But I'd still like to see a decent standalone tool for this. And since QTRGui development has long since stopped (as you point out), I guess now the only way to get something new or improved is to do it ourselves....

I have a Mac but I definetely prefer building my profiles on the Windows platform. The best way for me to get the best of both worlds, was to install the Win OS on my Mac with an open source program called Virtualbox (have a look at this video to get an idea: http://bit.ly/1doVeTO) It can also be installed on Windows and you can run a virtual Mac OS, so it works both ways.
I have linked my virtual Win XP folders to my Mac OS and can simply save my QTR profiles made within Win QTRgui in my final Mac folder.
It takes a bit to set up, but offers a solution.

Agree! That's what I do with the same set-up. Moreover I have three virtual machines running Win XP, 7 and 8.1.

My set-up is very similar to yours. I would recommend to check on what is necessary on the Mac side to run Virtual PC without too much laziness (always depending on the chosen OS on the Win side; XP works flawlessly)

And some people do it the other way around.
