first time curve creation

2017-05-29 by info@...

I'm just setting up a K7 ink set on an Epson 3880. I am following the calibration.pdf from the site and just about to determine the relative ink density levels. This document seems to be about k3 ink level calibration but I'm assuming that the principal will work for 7 cartridges as well, so I guess that was my first question.

I have a question that doesn't appear to have been asked before which makes me think there is something basic I'm not understanding.

The instructions indicate the ink density of each channel is calculated by its relative density when compared to the proceeding channel. Should I be reprinting and subsequently rereading the calibration target after modifying the ink level of each channel? The instructions don't say to do this but my instincts tell me I'll be turning in circles if the relative ink densities are not fixed values.

Thanks

Paul

Dear Paul. Download and install the Piezography Community Edition from Piezography.com and read the included manual that comes with it. This will explain it all. It's very different than the default QTR process or instructions.

Best,
Walker

Hello Walker,

Yes thank you, I have the manual and have downloaded the piezography curves for Moab Entrada and Jone Cone type 5 and the results are amazing just using the curve right out of the can.

The trouble is I still have about a dozen boxes of Museo Silver Rag, and although I understand there is an incompatibility between Jone Cone inks and this paper I wanted to be able to see it for myself to appraise the quality. Though there is a curve packaged with the Piezography set “CAR_MuseoSilverRag” I read on the inkjet mall forum that this curve is not suitable, (which I was able to confirm by using it to print).

So, not wanting to pay $100 dollars for a custom curve or $150 for Peizography Pro, for a paper I am probably not going to use for B&W, I thought I would try to make my own with QTR.

Am I’m wasting my time?

Best,

Paul

If you have PK-HD ink (what I suggest for this paper), you can use the new PK-HD master curve that is in your curve folder from the Community Edition and this will enable correct printing on gloss. Remember, Gloss K7 printing is a 2-step process that requires a second pass with the GO-30000 curve to print the gloss optimizer.

The new master curves have a totally different architecture and are built specific to each ink type (Selenium, Special Edition, Warm Neutral, Neutral, and Carbon). They enable deeper dMax (L* of 1.4) and better gloss differential and less bronzing. The master actually prints linear within a 5% on pretty much every semi-gloss paper.

RE: [QuadtoneRIP] first time curve creation

2017-05-29 by <info@...>

Walker,

I do not have the Piezo Pro ink set, (which is what I assume you mean by PK-HD) I have the selenium set, but if all I have to do is get the Piezo Pro ink set to salvage all this paper and, (if I’ve understood correctly) simulate any of the five individual ink sets, then that’s what I’ll do. I found the master curves in the Pro folder for each of the 5 ink sets.

Thanks again for all your help ( as well as saving me a lot of time and most likely disappointment)

Cheers!

Paul

All you need is the new PK-HD ink (you can keep selenium shades 2-7 in your printer) and then use the new PKHD Selenium master (which you found). Remember to gloss optimize.

Piezo-related questions can also be asked at support forum at inkjetmall.com/tech

Hey Walker - I haven't been able get on to the forum in a couple days. I am logged in to the site. The rest of the site seems to work fine. Are the forums off line?
