What happens if you use the Epson printer utility to check ink levels?
I assume there is *some* kind of utility that checks the printer.
That will at least tell you whether the USB connection is messed up.
If the utility can access the printer, it might be worth
disconnecting the printer, deleting the printer from the Print & Fax
menu (*all* references to the 7000), rebooting, reconnecting the
printer, adding back the Mac driver and checking to see whether it
will print "normally". If that works okay then you can try
reinstalling QTR.
At various times I've had problems getting the Epson 2200 to print,
but it was usually in WinXP.
I have the 2200 printing from an iBook G4 with 10.4.4. I can't
recall whether I've used QTR since the OS upgrade.
