Backing out USB Patch

Backing out USB Patch

2005-05-23 by jamesdsteele2001

Roy,

Still having the problem. Is there a way to back out the USB patch from Panther? It
appears that it's making it impossible for me to print to my Lexjet laser printer.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,

I think you should contact Roy directly. I remember he posted what file was switched, but I
can't find it, even with the Yahoo search engine.

John,

My very first email was to Roy directly. I haven't gotten a response. That's why I posted
there.

Didn't Roy say he would be away recently?

I'm not familiar with the Lexmark printers. It's strange that it would make them
fail since they were also available in Jaguar, but it's hard to tell for sure.

Anyway the file changed was:
   /usr/libexec/cups/backend/usb

The patch just took this file from Jaguar and replaced the Panther one.
Unfortunately I'm away from home but I'll try to get a copy of the standard Panther
file so I can get that to you.

One other thought is that you may have to re-add the lexjet printer
when you change the usb driver. I.e. you may not need to back out the
patch -- it may be just that you have to re-add the printer in Printer Setup.

But in any case, Jim, I got a panther usb for backing out the patch.
It on my website at:
www.harrington.com/unusb.zip

It works similarly to the patch, just run un-usb-patch.command.

Roy,

Many thanks. I reinstalled stuff, deleted preferences, repaired hard drives, etc. Nothing
worked. Very strange.

I'm probably going to upgrade to Tiger in the next few weeks and that may solve
everything. OTOH, it may create the unforeseen! ;-)

Thanks again.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
