QTR, Epson 4000, MIS Ultrachrome colour inks and BW: does it work?

QTR, Epson 4000, MIS Ultrachrome colour inks and BW: does it work?

2005-06-14 by glasseye83853

About to purchase either an Epson 4000 or a 4800. I'm leaning
towards
a 4000 because running costs for a 4000 will be at least half that of
a
4800 for the predictable future.

I Print 75% colour, matte only, but want BW capability.

Planning on using the MIS Epson Ultrachrome (colour) clone inkset
with
Eboni black and using QTR for monochrome work.

Anyone using this combiniation? Happy? Frustrated? Am I crazy?

Thanks!

Peter

I'm using that exact same setup and am very happy with it. No
problems for over a year. Nice B&W with QTR. You can use the
Atkinson profiles for color work but you may have to make some
tweaks to get the color right or make your own.

The Atkinson profiles are for 76/9600 & don't work well on 4000.

I can't understand "running costs for a 4000 will be at least half that of a 4800 for the
predictable future." The capital investment is higher than a used 4000, & there will no
doubt be a number of the latter; but the running costs shouldn't differ. Why do you think
they would?

I suggest you reappraise this point & wait to see what results folks get with their 4800s in
Advanced BW Mode. So far we have very little info because they don't ship with matte
black ink & it's hard to come by.
