QTR interfering with other printers

2007-04-13 by csprenge

Hi,

I have just installed QTR version 2.5.1 under Mac OS X 10.4.9. I have an Epson R2400 and
was able to get quite a nice first B&W print right out of the box.

Now I have the following interference problem with other printers. Besides my Epson
desktop, I have installed a number of Postscript printers that I use in the office (HP, Lanier
and Xerox). I have noticed that the QuadTone RIP menu entry not only appears in the
printing dialog box when the QuadR2400 is selected, but also with some, but not all, other
printers (a HP color printer and the Xerox). I think should not be the case, since during
the installation process I had to choose the printer which I want to use with QTR, so I
would expect that the others should not be affected.

With the HP I have at least a choice of 'On' and 'Off' in the mode menu of the QuadTone RIP
dialog box (where you normally chose between printing and calibration mode), but the
Xerox just offers 'Gray' as the only choice and now behaves incorrectly on Postscript files,
which is annoying. Both of these are network printers using the IPP protocol.

I would like to get rid of the menu entry QuadTone RIP for all but the QuadR2400 printer.
I also tried to uninstall the program using Remove-QTR.pkg, but the installer keeps saying
that there is nothing to uninstall.

Do I have to completely reset my printing system and lose all configurations, settings etc?
Any ideas to avoid this would be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes,
Christoph

OS X seems to load extra Print Dialog pages under some circumstances. I've
tried to
eliminate that as much as possible but it sounds like you've found more
cases. They
shouldn't affect other drivers even if they are displayed.

Re: QTR interfering with other printers

2007-04-15 by csprenge

Hi Roy,

thank you for your reply. Unfortunately they do affect other drivers.

At least, with the other printers I get a dialog box warning me that
no QTR Curve is set and that the printing results will be
unpredictable. This is at least annoying as it appears every time
I want to print.

I also had a problem with printing a Postscript document with math
symbols: many of the symbols were replaced by exclamation marks.
I would have to do more testing to confirm that this is really due to
QTR. I never had this before though.

Here is what I have tried so far to get rid of the problem:
I tried Remove-QTR.pkg, but it does not work. It keeps telling me
that there is nothing to install. Next, I have reset the whole printing
system and have reinstalled in this order
1) the R2400 printer,
2) QTR for the R2400, and
3) the IPP printers (HP, Lanier and Xerox)
This did not help either (same symptoms reappear).

For now I have manually removed all QTR files that mentioned in the
diagnotic script output. Now the the QTR dialogs are gone.

Any hints on how to install more sucessfully are greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Christoph

Hi Christoph,

I'm away from home now so I can't investigate more until I get home.
It's the /Library/Printers/PPD Plugins/QuadTone.plugin file that gives the
dialog pages.

Hi Roy,

thanks, I have already removed the plugin and all other files
listed in the diagnostic script output.

Would be great if you could investigate when you have time
again. I can send you the output of the dignostic script if
this is useful.

Cheers,
Christoph

Re: QTR interfering with other printers

I am having the same problem with a HP2605. The only way to remove the
QuadTone Rip page from the printer dialogue is to remove the QuadTone
plugin and the rest of QuadTone. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Brian

Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: QTR interfering with other printers

2007-05-25 by Roy Harrington

I think I now have a fix for this. I don't have the problem with my HP printer
so it would be good it you could check it with your printer.

Download: http://www.quadtonerip.com/QuadTone.plugin.zip
Unzip it and replace: /Library/Printers/PPD Plugins/QuadTone.plugin

Let me know what the results are.

Thanks,
Roy
